Tinsel & Tine: Annual Oscars Round Up 2026

98th Academy Awards
Red Carpet Picnic/Hotel Oscars Party of 1

The past 2 years I’ve done my Oscars Watching Hotel Party at the Alloy in KOP, but this year without a car, I stayed a little closer to home and chose Club Quarters Philadelphia. The room had a good vibe and where they mounted the TV was at the perfect eye level for watching in bed.  One year I’ll get it together to take a little trip and combine it with watching the Oscars, but so far the joy is just being cozy in a hotel room with snacks and the ability to watch E Channel’s Oscars Brunch broadcast starting at 3pm leading into the Red Carpet.

This is the first year I’m not writing a full on Oscars Recap post.  It really takes so long and with so many outlets covering the Oscars, for the most part, this is only for my own archiving. There were no real surprises or upsets and everything looked and sounded good.  So no real critique… I posted some Reels with my Tweets and my fashion picks.  Click on the images below for videos:

We (PFCC) typically do a Oscars Pre-Show Podcast to Predict Our Winners. Here’s a Clip:

I feel like each year we see less and less of the Red Carpet Fashions; they zoom in on a key 12-15 celebs, so there’s a lot we miss.  But of those we saw, most I approved of their Oscars choices:

OSCARS Mini-Recap – Not sure Conan as king/Josh Groban bit was necessary. They definitely could have written something better for the women of BRIDESMAIDS.
But I was glad they spent a good amount of time on the Memoriam. Robert Redford was right, sometimes Barbra Streisand’s more of a Babs. But jeez how could we have lost so many heavy hitters in 2025!

Autumn Durald Arkapaw wining Best Cinematographer for Sinners feels like a win for female filmmakers of all types! But how long will she be “the only” another 98 years?

ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER – most of their wins I got right on my ballot. I kept waffling back and forth about predicting Sean Penn winning – thinking the Academy voters might not want to reward what the character represents. Not that it should be a consideration when acknowledging talent, but… One Battle was #3 on my list of Top 10 Movies for 2025, and watching Teyana Taylor and Chase Infinity enjoy Award Season was fantastic; so I can’t say I’m unhappy with it winning Best Picture, yet it feels like a let down at the same time.

A SINNERS win for Best Picture would have felt more like hope and rightness in the face of all we’re enduring at the moment. Still they had a great night!
