The Saturday before the Oscars, I was in pretty bad shape, not able to keep anything down or in, not even liquids. Wasn’t sure I’d be able to pull it together for my Oscars Social Media Commentary, or entertain my sister and best friend coming over for our Oscars viewing party. I rallied, but just barely, couldn’t really enjoy our beautiful Red Carpet Picnic. But luckily LeVonne and Diane were able to indulge.

#REDCARPETPICNIC: Blue Corn Nachos with Italian sausage, shredded chicken, red peppers, jalapeño, blue cheese; Spinach Pie, with a homemade crust, courtesy of Aunt Knuckie; World Cellars Red Wine selections; Trader Joes Hot Cocoa, Skinny Girl Popcorn, Harvest Snaps Wasabi Ranch and Tomato Basil, brought by Diane; LeVonne’s Cupcake Brownies with Trader Joe Peanut Butter Cups inside and Salted Carmel drizzle.

Every year, I say I’m going to get it together in time to approach a Red Carpet Picnic Sponsor, who in exchange for promotion leading up to and during the Oscars, would provide the picnic. This year, when CBS Philly included me in their Art & Culture Piece on Throwing an Oscar Party, I put out some feelers, but nothing came through, perhaps next year!

Chris Rock Takes on #OscarsSoWhite

Chris Rock had a big weight to carry and I think he shouldered it with balance and true humor. He was easily able to navigate from funny asides like saying Paul Giamati has range because one year he’s Whipping Lupita Nyong’o in 12 Years A Slave and the next year he’s crying at Eazy E’s funeral In Straight Outta Compton. And, why not have black categories like best black friend… And the winner, for the 18th year in a row, is Wanda Sykes. To laying it on the line about what type of racists Hollywood is and the need for more opportunities.

Then I read some comments from viewers online and I’m shock and appalled by the blatant racism. So many comments saying black people are always whining about inequality – Whining! That we have the BET Awards so why complain. That they were bored by the Oscars addressing the issue of lack of diversity and that they didn’t see anything funny in Rock’s monologue, that they felt he was preachy, they didn’t want to be hit over the head with it; that black actors simply are not as good as white actors… when you read comments like this you understand how Trump is leading in the polls:(
But what I gotta believe is that the majority of Americans, are intelligent and want to live in a world ever striving for more equality, whether it be in Hollywood, politics, the workplace… it’s just they don’t need to prove anything by writing anonymous comments.

Any way, back to the humor, how could you not laugh at Tracy Morgan as the Danish Girl and Leslie Jones as “The Bear” who Leo didn’t call back! As much as I liked the skits, we noticed that the production was a little too loose, stuff like Sarah Silverman going on about James Bond’s genitalia. Some of the musical choices for the segues, some awkward camera angles, the Stacey Dash moment, seemed more like the Globes than the Oscars.

Before we move off of the topic of race and humor this was sadly funny:

This is why the hashtag #OscarSoWhite caught on, when you don’t know the difference between Whoopi and Oprah. Shame 🙁

I don’t hate this sea foam green Armani creation, an ingenue like Brie Larson could pull it off, but I don’t think it’s sophisticated enough for Cate Blanchett who is usually the hands down winner on the red carpet.

Watched E’s Fashion Police and Tim Gunn said he hated this dress, because it lacked modesty. What an old fart – Clearly Charliz Theron in Dior is without question the BEST of Oscar Red Carpet 2016!!!

For the men Jared Leto brought something different to the traditional tux, but boy has Russell Crowe changed!
