Me N Mo Meatballs and More Tasting
By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor
The Frusone brothers – Giancarlo and Chef Sandro are
not new to the restaurant business, they’ve run several establishments,
including Gnocchi on lower East Passyunk. But this one’s got a theme –
MEATBALLS!
Me ‘N’ Mo located on 2nd & South is new to The South Street Headhouse District. This Italian restaurant specializes in six to eight varieties of hand-rolled meatballs every single day, made from beef, pork, lamb, chicken, veggie, with a rotating special. I got to try, well, try implies I took a bite – I ate 6 or more meatballs, each with its own sauce, along with a generous portion of perfectly weighted Gnocci, all enjoyed with fresh baked focaccia bread, a vegetable medley which included chickpeas, lentils and mushrooms and several glasses of house red, of which I forgot to get the name.
My favorite?
The Buffalo Chicken with blue cheese was like eating a chicken wing in the shape of a meatball, and that’s a true compliment. I’m big on pork, so I of course found favor with the Spicy Pork meatball, the other chicken meatball offering with sage, shallots & stuffed with fontina cheese was a good mixture too. And it’s hard to go wrong with an Original Beef meatball in a traditional marinara sauce, but the one I give my coveted 4 Tine rating to is….
The VEGGIE MEATBALL!!! Can you believe that!?! from the girl that lives on meat, bread and cake. They were so nicely crunchy on the outside and the mix of flavors was outstanding! Chef Sandro wouldn’t tell me all the ingredients, but it begins with onions, celery, carrots, garlic, chickpeas lentils and…
Me N Mo Veggie Meatball gets Tinsel &Tine’s 4 Tine Rating |
You can’t beat the prices at Me ‘N’ Mo Meatballs & More – $8 for 4 huge meatballs, with focaccia bread, you pick the sauce. The only problem being you have to pick 4 of the same meatballs, no mixing & matching. I didn’t know this tidbit while I was there, or I would have asked why?
You can sample 1 meatball for $3 (with or without a bun) and you can order a plate of gnocchi or lasagne and a number of other sides for only $5. I see a Cinema Sneak n Snack™ in my future. If I cut through Society Hill Towers, Me N’ Mo is only about a 10 minute walk from both Ritz 5 and Ritz East!
