    THINK LIKE A MAN

    April 21, 2012 /

My Preview Screening of Think Like A Man was courtesy of Cinedelphia Steve Harvey, comedian, actor, radio personality, best selling author and relationship expert, got to add one more thing to his list of accomplishments; his book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like A Man is now a [hopefully equally successful] movie. Harvey was in attendance at the Philly red carpet premiere of the film – that has the shortened title of Think Like A Man.  He told the press   that he couldn’t possibly have anticipated the book inspiring a movie; but he’s very pleased with the fictionalizing of his book in a way that does it justice.  He…

    ALBERT NOBBS

    March 24, 2012 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor The film Albert Nobbs (Director: Rodrigo García) celebrates woman’s ability to adapt and thrive under harsh circumstances.  Albert Nobbs (Glenn Close) was born a female through and through; but after being orphaned and raped at the age of 14, she realized, as a boy, she’ll have the ability to make a decent wage being a waiter/butler in establishments that cater to the high society of early 19th Century Ireland. Hubert Page (Janet McTeer) also born a woman, married an abusive husband; after leaving him, she takes on his profession as a house painter and begins to present herself as a man, even to the point…

Commentary – True Grit, The Tourist, How Do You Know

    December 28, 2010 /

I never liked John Wayne. His tough as nails, “The Duke” appeal never found resonance with me. The only Western I ever liked was Kenny Rogers in The Gambler. Yet, I can honestly say, I was very taken in by The Coen Brother’s remake of True Grit. I don’t know if the original movie had such bombastic and articulate dialogue, or hilarious statements of the obvious, but this artfulness was a good part of this movie’s appeal for me. It’s also less shoot’em up and more road comedy. Jeff Bridges is a hoot as one-eyed Rooster Cogburn and new comer, Hailee Steinfeld, Mattie Ross, puts the truth in True Grit.…

    NINE (Movie Musical)

    December 31, 2009 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I fell in love with the trailer for the movie musical Nine, because it appeared to be a visual feast for the eyes. In my opinion, Director, Rob Marshall, Cinematographer, Dion Beebe, Costume Designer, Colleen Atwood, Production Designer, John Myhre along with the Set Decorator, Makeup Department and Art Direction created the look of a magazine; very glossy, international, mixing styles, trends and eras in alluring arrays.I’ve read approx. 10-12 reviews of Nine today, both from critics and moviegoers, a few give a back handed compliment to the visual aspect of the film, but most just want to hate this movie entirely. Some hate that…
