    Tinsel & Tine Fun Film & Food Fodder on Facebook

    If at times it seems Tinsel & Tine hasn’t posted anything new for a couple of days, it’s often because I’ve been making quick comments about my film and/or dining experiences and linking to interesting film and food fodder on facebook.     Philly Restaurant – Flying Carpet Cafe & Bar

    Stumbled upon an oasis in the desert yesterday, a real treasure of a spot called Flying Carpet Cafe & Bar.  Located in the triangular apex of 19th & Poplar (1841 Poplar Street).  The vibe inside is wonderfully chill, with a slightly Moorish decor. Owner Kevin Young, is at least partly of Middle Eastern decent and a lot of the menu reflects this flavor, offering Mediterranean Tapas, Vegan Flying Falafel, Exotic Teas and Baklava.     Metropolis – PFS & Macy’s Event

    Partnering with the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ and hosted by Macy’s Center City, attendees were treated to a truly unique Philly film event by pairing Fritz Lang’s 1927 restored sci-fi work of art with the historic Wanamaker Organ, fantastically played by Peter Richard Conte. Metropolis is an ambitious film, even by today’s standard in terms of themes explored. It mixes in a myriad of religious doctrine, including a savior/mediator and the dual perception of women throughout history of being both temptress and goddess.
