Commentary – UNKNOWN
Tuesday’s PFS sneak preview was Liam Neeson’s new action flick Unknown. And I’m really going to make this a short post because almost anything I say about this film will be a spoiler alert. Neeson plays Dr. Martin Harris, a botanist just arrived in Berlin for a summit. He’s accompanied by his exquisite young wife, Elizabeth, played by my girl crush, January Jones. Upon arriving at the hotel, Dr. Harris realizes his briefcase is not with the rest of the luggage and leaves his wife to check in, while he grabs a cab back to the airport. The cab gets into an accident while heading to the airport and Dr.…

Looking for “Likes” on Facebook
Yes, I know everybody is looking for facebook likes as if it paid actual money or something. It’s kinda like flashing your boobs in New Orleans during Mardi Gras for beads. I do post some various and sundry film and food fodder on my facebook fanpage that doesn’t appear here on the blog. I’m at 66 fans now, would love to make that 100 before the end of the month. By the way, reminder: Guest Bloggers are Welcome – Looking for any recent film festival experiences and dinner and a movie write ups. Reelblack Short Film Showcase Recap
I attended last week's Reelblack's Showcase of Short Films by Emerging Artists of Color (I House). Commentary – True Grit, The Tourist, How Do You Know
I never liked John Wayne. His tough as nails, “The Duke” appeal never found resonance with me. The only Western I ever liked was Kenny Rogers in The Gambler. Yet, I can honestly say, I was very taken in by The Coen Brother’s remake of True Grit. I don’t know if the original movie had such bombastic and articulate dialogue, or hilarious statements of the obvious, but this artfulness was a good part of this movie’s appeal for me. It’s also less shoot’em up and more road comedy. Jeff Bridges is a hoot as one-eyed Rooster Cogburn and new comer, Hailee Steinfeld, Mattie Ross, puts the truth in True Grit.…

Commentary – Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
… I also learned I’m not alone in confusing C.S. Lewis with Lewis Carroll . Answer.com provided this: Lewis Carroll wrote “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, “Through the Looking Glass”, and some other delightful tales of none sense. He was a mathematician who took delight in the daughter of a friend, Alice Pleasant and wrote his stories for her amusement. C.S. Lewis was a “Christian” novelist who used figures from various European mythologies to promote his beliefs. Lewis Carroll lived in the 1800’s while C. S. Lewis lived in the 20th century. If you believe in reincarnation, they could be the same person as Lewis Carroll (Dodgson) died in January 1898…
