    A Revlock Review: THE REVENANT

    January 10, 2016 /

Visceral Approach to Filmmaking: The Revenant  By Tinsel & Tine Contributor Mikhail Revlock The plot of  THE REVENANT does not benefit from summarization. It’s 1823. Guest Blogger: Top 5 Sci-Fi Movies by Philly Sci-Fi Author Rorie Still

    January 6, 2016 /

Tinsel & Tine Editor Le Anne Lindsay Intro: I met Rorie Still last March at the International Women’s Day Celebration (click for post) held at Cynwyd Station Cafe and Tea Room, and as is always the case in Philly, we discovered we knew a lot of the same people and have gotten together to chat a time or two. Rorie has written a compilation of Sci-Fi/Fantasy stories called Flashbang: Sci-Fi Stories That Will Blow Your Mind , which I’ve been wanting to read, but when I turned 40 my brain stopped being able to read anything but articles, blog posts and research. It’s awful – both my sisters have written books, they’re…

    David O. Russell’s 8th Movie: JOY

    January 3, 2016 /

Red Wine on Teak Floors = “Joy”   By Le Anne Lindsay, Tinsel & Tine Editor The first thing I liked about JOY, David O. Russell’s latest vehicle starring Jennifer Lawrence, was the trailer. It gave very little away, you knew the protagonist lived with her entire family, including an ex-husband and that she wants them to get behind her on an idea to hopefully get them out of low economic circumstances, but that’s it. The rest of the images could take the story in many different directions, so you walk into the movie, open for anything. I’ve read some of the criticism of  “Joy”, most critics feel…

How About Those Credit Default Swaps: THE BIG SHORT

    December 30, 2015 /

Does anyone else feel like THE BIG SHORT just sneaked into the Awards season without warning? I never saw a trailer, it features big names like Christian Bale and Steve Carell, yet I hadn't heard any buzz

A Revlock Review: THE HATEFUL EIGHT

    December 26, 2015 /

Tarantino’s greatest strength remains his dialogue. Although the historical setting means no pithy dissections of Madonna or McDonald’s, it’s impressive how he can muster so much tension from ruminative, ornate conversations. His dialogue possesses a pleasing deliberateness that harkens back to the golden age of cinema and reveals by contrast the absence of wit in most modern films...
