    Philly Dining Spotlight: RENATA’S KITCHEN

    December 17, 2015 /

Cafe Renata is Renata’s Kitchen  By Tinsel & Tine Editor, Le Anne Lindsay This past summer I got to work from home. It was one of the best summers of my adult life.  One reason being, I really got a chance to walk around my neighborhood. I moved to West Philly the prior summer, but having more free time to go to the park, work from coffee shops and explore, made a big difference in getting to feel more at home.  During my travels, I kept seeing the coming soon sign for Renata’s Kitchen on 45th & Baltimore Ave. (4533 Baltimore Ave) This adorable little bistro was taking shape under…

Man into Woman: THE DANISH GIRL

    December 12, 2015 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor First off, the Parisian fashions of the late 1920’s would be enough to make any male with the least amount of femininity want to at least dress in drag. THE DANISH GIRL costumes for both Gerda (Alicia Vikander) & Lili (Eddie Redmayne) just make you wanna cry with the desire to wear and own them. Kudos to the costume designer Paco Delgado. Of course there’s a big difference between someone born male who dresses in drag or cross dress and one that identifies as a woman – transgender.  But it’s all very confusing for us cisgenders (those good with the sex you were born into),…

Did They Have to Eat The Black Guy?: IN THE HEART OF THE SEA

    December 11, 2015 /

Moby Dick Inspired Survivalist Tale with Director Ron Howard Live Twitter Interview Embeds By Tinsel & Tine Editor, Le Anne Lindsay “Thar she blows” now has a more visual meaning for me after seeing Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment’s IN THE HEART OF THE SEA. The movie is based not on Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” as much as it’s based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s, non fiction book of the same name. Philbrick is a leading authority on the history of Nantucket and the story of the sinking of the 19th century shipping vessel, The Essex, which is a big part of Nantucket’s whaling history. What I really love about most Ron Howard/Brian…

Philly Spotlight: Chinatown Izakaya – YAKITORI BOY and other Philly Highlights

    December 4, 2015 /

This week’s invite came from Philly PR Girl in celebration of the 8th Anniversary of  YAKITORI BOY  211 N. 11th Street (11th & Race). The establishment is called an Izakaya, which is the equivalent of a pub, in Japan.  Different from a bar in that emphasis is put on ordering food to accompany your cocktails.  Wikipedia says Izakaya: is a compound word consisting of “i” (to stay) and “sakaya” (sake shop), indicating that izakaya originated from sake shops that allowed customers to sit on the premises to drink.  Yakitori Boy Celebration 12/2/2015 Gorgeous ladies: Media Maven Deja Monēē (lf) and Explore Philly Editor, Cassie Helper (rt.) in red.  Cassie graciously granted me…

Empire Season 2 RECAP: Ep 5 Be True / Ep 6 A High Hope for a Low Heaven / Ep 7 True Love Never / Ep 8 My Bad Parts / Ep 9 Sinned Against / Ep 10 Et tu, Brute

    December 1, 2015 /

Empire Season 2, Episode 7, 8, 9 &10 The busy life of a film, food and events blogger means you can’t always be home to watch your favorite shows. So I missed doing an individual post on each of the last 4 episodes of EMPIRE, but you can be damn sure I watched them all on Demand. I think what plays out best on the show is Cookie’s relationship with her sons.  She really knows how to talk to, handle and reach each one on their own terms; and in turn they look to her for approval. She’s come a long way from those first few months out of prison…
