    UNTOGETHER by filmmaker Emma Forrest

    February 2, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine’s look at FreeStyle Media Presents: UNTOGETHER By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I was offered a screener to check out writer/director Emma Forrest’s feature debut UNTOGETHER starring real-life sisters – Jemima Kirke , (HBO’s GIRLS & painter), Lola Kirke (Noah Baumbach’s MISTRESS AMERICA & singer), Jamie Dornan (FIFTY SHADES trilogy) Ben Mendelsohn (Netflix series BLOODLINES and upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL) and the one and only Billy Crystal. It’s a moment in time type movie that centers around the romances of two sisters, Andrea (Jemima) & Tara (Lola). Andrea made a name for herself as a very young, successful author of a best selling novel, but that was a couple…

    Alita Battle Angel

    January 31, 2019 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Directed by Robert Rodriguez written and produced by James Cameron, based on 90’s Japanese cyberpunk manga series created by Yukito Kishiro. I often think about all these post-apocalyptic worlds created for our entertainment, and cringe at the possible self-fulfilling prophecy of it all. History shows us the collective conscious can create, shift and build our societies and environment, so what does it mean that we’ve been steeped in movies like: 12 Monkeys, The Road, Mad Max, Children of Men, War of the Worlds, World War Z, The Day After Tomorrow, District 9, Zombieland, Blade Runner, Ready Player One, Planet of the Apes and so many…

    SERENITY

    January 29, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview SERENITY by writer/director Steven Knight (LOCKE) I was looking forward to this movie which looked like a good off-beat noir-ish indie, hopefully with a nice twist and some hot chemistry between Matthew McConaughey & Anne Hathaway. Turns out, it’s a world building sci-fi concept disguised as a bad off-beat noir-ish indie. As the reason.com reviewer Kurt Loder describes it – “it’s two different movie genres, oddly pressed together, like a grilled roach and cheese sandwich”. The only redeeming nature of the film is for McConaughey fans who want to see him spouting existential nonsense, doing light manual labor, often naked or close to it, his still…

Philly Spotlight: TOTALITY: THE TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE DOCUMENTARY

    January 26, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine Highlights: Philly Filmmaker John N. Campbell’s By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Remember the spectacular total solar eclipse of August 21, 2017, which had people taking off from work, driving cross country to get a better ogle at it? We just had a partial eclipse January 5, 2019, these happen more often, but before 2017, the last total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. occurred 38 years ago on February 26, 1979. Unfortunately, not many people saw it because it clipped just five states in the Northwest and the weather for the most part was bleak. Before that one, you have to go back to March 7, 1970.…

    GLASS

    January 16, 2019 /

I was on Rotten Tomatoes reading some horrifically mean reviews of M. Night Shyamalan’s sequel to UNBREAKABLE & SPLIT – all complete with horrible puns on cracked glass and glasses half full etc… Okay even as a huge Philly film supporter, I’m not going to say I have enjoyed all of Night’s movies, or that I’ve even seen them all; but I can’t understand why movie critics really get off on tearing him down, they want to hate his movies. Many of them that will admit Unbreakable and Split were both pretty good, seem to do so reluctantly. I can’t think of another filmmaker who gets such vitriolic treatment from…
