Pandering to the #metoo #timesup and inclusion movement in a way that wasn’t too cloying. I bet he and the Academy producers were wonderfully surprised the whole Jet Ski bit went over better than they would have imagined – at the start of the show, Kimmel offered up a Jet Ski (worth almost $18,000) and a trip to Lake Havasu in Arizona as a prize for the Oscar winner who gave the shortest acceptance…

Tinsel & Tine Recaps & Archives The 89th Annual Academy Awards By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I normally start these round ups talking about the foods served at my annual Red Carpet Picnic, then I go into the host, handled very well by Jimmy Kimmel, whose Trump Administration political jokes were funny, made a point, but weren’t too over the top – “The Oscars are being watched by 225 countries around the world who now hate us”. Then I normally go to the red carpet fashion trends & best and worst dressed, followed by best speech and so on… highlighting various categories, some fodder, and ending with the highest honor…

Host Ricky Gervais' disdain for all and sundry hit a few gasps, but on the whole, was pretty tame. I have to admit last night, I was unaware of the whole Sean Penn and El Chapo surreal-ality, so that joke went over my head til I watch the Today Show in the morning...
