AMC Theaters August 20, 2020 Opening

#MovieNews Of course I wanna go back to seeing movies in the theaters, but what about the air conditioning, #COVID19 possibly circulating in the reconstituted air? As a member of The Philadelphia Film Critics Circle, we were asked if we would be willing to head back to the theaters for preview screenings if it was only critics attending. At first I said yes, as there would only be like 10-12 of us and we could each take a row. But then I remembered the whole air conditioning thing and decided no, because I don’t want to wear a mask during a whole movie. And even that’s no guarantee. But then, you gotta figure every employee working at a store or other essential businesses are in air conditioning all day, so is it a concern?

I’m just such a hypochondriac I can’t enjoy being out. I had errands I couldn’t avoid yesterday – FEDEX, Staples, Post Office and decided to grab a slice while I was out. (Pizza guy getting my slices out of the oven with his mask below his chin 😒) 2hrs after getting home I swear I don’t feel well, going through the check list of symptoms even though I know you can’t have symptoms that fast. I feel fine now, but that’s the thing, can’t enjoy things like going to the movies, all paranoid!

I feel for theaters and don’t want them to keep hemorrhaging money while sitting empty and I don’t want the general public to get so used to watching on devices they no longer feel excited about seeing a movie as they were intended, on the big screen … just one dilemma of a slew in this “new normal” …

“AMC Theatres Charging 15 Cents a Ticket on Opening Day – roughly the equivalent of what it cost to watch a movie in 1920. That’s the year that the company’s founders, the Dubinsky Brothers, began operations with a single movie screen in Kansas City, Missouri. Of course, the movies that people will be able to buy tickets to see won’t be new blockbusters. They will be legacy titles such as “Black Panther” and “The Empire Strikes Back.”  READ MORE Variety
