    Commentary – RED TAILS

    January 29, 2012 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor It should have been my priority to get this commentary on Red Tails up much sooner – considering it took George Lucas 20 years to get this film made, with a major obstacle being, Hollywood not wanting to spend big bucks on a movie featuring a black cast. Plus, when I see a preview screening, I’d prefer to get my post up by opening weekend.  Well, you know the old cliche – better late than never.  The Red Tails preview screening was sponsored by The Ben Franklin Global Forum, The Union League of Philadelphia and The Tuskegee Airman Greater Philadelphia Chapter. The pre-screening presentation was…

5 Mini Movie Reviews – The Artist, Girl w/the Dragon Tattoo, Mission Impossible, We Bought a Zoo, New Year’s Eve

    January 3, 2012 /

I didn’t do a lot of Christmas shopping this season, didn’t try any new restaurants and my lips were left cold and wanting on New Year’s Eve. But on a bright note,  I did manage to fit in 5 films between Christmas and New Years. The Artist (Writer/Director Michel Hazanavicius) – Silent film star George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is riding high, full of fame, ego and verve, one moment at the height of stardom, the next crashing down to earth, brought low by the advent of sound – “The Talkies”. This same new movie craze propels his ingenue, protege Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo) into celebrity starlet status. Silently, sans color…

    Commentary – Hugo

    November 25, 2011 /

So here we are once again in the midst of the holiday movie season with plenty of family fun and enchantment to choose from: The Muppets make a comeback; Happy Feet II or is it III?; For the tweens and teens, another addition to the Twilight Saga, and for adults wanting to take their children to something magical with a message – Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, based on Brian Selznick award winning book The Invention of Hugo Cabret. The film is set circa 1930’s, although Hugo (Asa Butterfield) looks like a street urchin straight out of a Dickens novel. He’s an orphan whose wonderfully loving father, a clockmaker (Jude Law) dies…

20th Annual Philadelphia Film Festival Coverage 2011 Part 2 of 3

    October 27, 2011 /

JEFF WHO LIVES AT HOME Family stuff and life in general is getting in the way of seeing as much as I want, and writing as much as I see. Which is why as great as it is to have a big film festival in your own backyard, it would be better to be here on vacation and experience all the films without so many interruptions. I was glad to make the second screening of Jeff, Who Lives at Home, particularly since the director was available for another Q & A. Well, co-director, this film is by another team of writer/director brothers. Not the Farrelly Bros. or the Coen Bros.…

Tinsel & Tine Interview – Eric Bresler (Cinedelphia) Profiled

    August 24, 2011 /

Before getting into Cinedelphia, a go to site of film coverage, interviews, reviews, listings, ticket giveaways, event coverage and more! I wanted to chat about Eric's film background. As I suspected, he was an aspiring filmmaker; one who took on a huge undertaking for his 2001 senior project at Drexel University (Film & Video Program)....
