    THE KITCHEN

    August 16, 2019 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I lightly had THE KITCHEN on my radar, thought it was going to be a female driven mob comedy, mainly because of the casting of Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish who seemed like they could be comedy gold together.  But also, I felt the posters and advertising gave me a Charlie’s Angels feeling rather than The Sopranos. The set up of the movie happens quickly, in a comedy this is a good thing, in a gritty crime drama, you want more texture and details. I felt I needed to live longer with these women before I believed they can suddenly take over Hell’s Kitchen.  …

Sisters in the Struggle: SUFFRAGETTE, FREEHELD, THE KEEPING ROOM

    October 10, 2015 /

Discussion of Three Female Driven Movies Screened Back to Back – “Suffragette”, “Freeheld” and “The Keeping Room” By Tinsel & Tine Editor, Le Anne Lindsay SUFFRAGETTE – which takes place in England (1920’s) during the height of the feminist movement led by Emmeline Pankhurst’s (Meryl Streep) Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was founded in 1897, but after years of peaceful methods of trying to gain women the right to vote without success, the WSPU began practicing militant, radical and rebellious methods to call attention to their cause. Most of the characters in the film are composites of Suffragette’s of the time representing both upper class and working class…

Women of Comedy at the Box Office

    September 2, 2014 /

The fact that women can be as funny as – if not funnier – than men seems to be just recently coming to the attention of Hollywood execs Contributed By – Elizabeth Eckhart Now, we’re seeing a stream of female-centric comedies, and new leading ladies are finally receiving the attention they deserve. Of course, it has be a long road to get to today, where female driven comedies can bring box office numbers as big as their male counterparts. So, let’s take a look at some of the revolutionary ladies who changed the game (and made us laugh until we cried): Wanda Sykes – Primarily known as the too-sassy-for-her-own-good sidekick in…

    Trifecta: THE OTHER WOMAN

    April 25, 2014 /

Can I tell you the movie is more than what you see in the trailers? No, not really, it's a pretty predictable ride, but it's a good ride all the same.  I am glad that the writer, Melissa K. Stack, does not have the two women bond too quickly.

Belly Laughs: THE HEAT (Interview: Jessica Chaffin & Jamie Denbo)

    June 28, 2013 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Is it getting easier to make me laugh or are writers getting funnier? I laughed like a fool at This is The End (click for T&T post) and like an idiot at the female cop (Melissa McCarthy) vs female FBI agent (Sandra Bullock) / female cop partnered with FBI agent comedy – The Heat. Below is a segment I like to call – I couldn’t have said it better myself, where I find sources from the web that echo my sentiments on the movie.  But first… Denbo & Chaffin at Dave & Busters Philadelphia Jessica Chaffin and Jamie Denbo, are best known for their “Ronna…
