    Philly Dining: BESITO MEXICAN RESTAURANT

    November 16, 2015 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Tasting Tour of Mexican Restaurant – BESITO This month Tinsel & Tine’s “Philly In the Spotlight” features new upscale Mexican restaurant BESITO, which opened at the end of October and is located in the Suburban Square Shopping Center in Ardmore PA (105 Coulter Ave, Ardmore, PA 19003). Translated as “little kiss,” Besito was conceived by restaurateur John Tunney III who founded the brand in 2006 after traveling extensively throughout Mexico to establish a connection with its people, cuisine and culture. Believing that each restaurant location is a unique extension of the original vision, Besito Mexican strives to delight its guests with the warmth of a…

Contributor Diane Roka: THE END OF THE TOUR

    August 13, 2015 /

The End of the Tour: More of an Essay than a Review  By Tinsel & Tine Contributor and Illustrator Diane Roka When I was a kid in the 70’s, I would sit on the carpeted floor of our tiny local library (housed in a suburban mini-mall), wearing a tube top, denim gauchos, clogs and a feathered hairdo, and pore over a box of the latest Rolling Stone magazines. The giant plastic comb in my back pocket would be uncomfortable to sit on after a while, but I didn’t care. Journalists like Ben Fong-Torres and Cameron Crowe and photojournalists like Annie Leibowitz would travel and sometimes live “embedded” with the musicians…

The Peanuts Movie: An Interview with Harriet Glickman & Mar Mar By Illustrator and Tinsel & Tine Contributor – Diane Roka Harriet Glickman Illustration by Diane Roka These days, it’s hard to watch the news without feeling depressed about the state of things. In 1968, Harriet Glickman felt the same way. Martin Luther King had just been assassinated, racial tensions were running high, and Harriet was raised in a family that believed that when something very wrong takes place, you do something about it. Harriet had been a schoolteacher, and was now home raising her three children. Her whole family were big Peanuts fans — there were posters on the…

What Happens If You’re an Eye Donor? : I ORIGINS

    August 14, 2014 /

By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I am just fascinated by science and technology. The Stories that I’m interested in telling are very much inspired by science and scientists and then finding the emotional, profound thing that one stumbles upon in life and how that connects to a specific scientific paradigm – Mike Cahill (writer/director of Another Earth & I Origins). More and more the lines between science and matters of spirit are blurred. Scientists study faith and its affect on healing, doctors prescribe yoga and meditation; in actuality, these two studies have always informed each other, after all, Galileo and Da Vinci were both artists and scientists.  Mike Cahill obviously…
