Philly Spotlight: FOUNDING FOOTSTEPS
Did you know that Benjamin Franklin not only created the very first Fire Department in Philadelphia, but that his entrepreneurial thinking also allowed him to capitalize on creating the very first Fire Insurance Company? Did you know the seat of our government would most likely have remained in Philadelphia if it had not been for Banker Stephen Girard’s ships bringing Yellow Fever to the city? Have you ever noticed just how “glad” William Penn is to see you, if you’re looking at his statue’s silhouette from the parkway? Philly Dining: MERCATO SUMMER TASTING MENU
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor My sister LeVonne’s birthday (7/7) just happened to fall on a Tuesday this year, which made it perfect for checking out Mercato (1216 Spruce St, Philadelphia, PA 19107) Tuesday Tasting Menu – 3 Courses for $33.00 #TastingTuesdays . Philly Restaurant – Indian Restaurant (1634 South Street)
I think it’s funny that the name of this Indian food restaurant is Indian Restaurant. Makes you wonder if they just gave up on trying to agree on a name. It’s only been open since March, the dining room is new, fresh, nice, not a lot of character, but traditionally decorated, white table cloths, preset with cloth napkins. I arrived for an early dinner today (Sunday) around 4pm and had the place entirely to myself; they seem to do more of a take-out business, although it’s very pricey for take-out. The staff was attentive without being annoying. I sat in the restaurant for over two hours watching a streaming seminar…
