Sundance 2020 for Tinsel & Tine 10th Anniversary

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor

POST UPDATE 3.14.2021

SIFTMedia 215 Member Kristal Sotomayor reflects on her experience actually receiving the SUNDANCE INSTITUTE PRESS DIVERSITY STIPEND, which per my below post of 2019  I did not receive.  Happy for Kristal that she was one of the 51 outta 317 applications to be chosen; however, a big part of her issue with the program was not having proper time to secure an outlet to write for after being awarded. I already HAVE a longstanding outlet which covers Film Festivals and thanks to family and friends who donated to my GOFUNDME, I was able to attend and create detailed coverage of Sundance Film Festival (click for 2020 Coverage) (Personal reasons prevented me from applying and covering 2021). Therefore, I feel those either with outlets or prior assignments from outlets should have received first consideration for receiving the stipend.

And putting it out in the Universe – I deserve to have ALL my expenses paid when covering a Film Festival because we bloggers and journalists are a vital part of the cog in this whole films, filmmakers, film festivals, distribution etc world!

Kristal’s piece for IDA (International Documentary Association) “While I am truly thankful to have been a Sundance Press Inclusion Initiative Awardee, I felt there could have been more thoughtfulness in the execution. The timing of the award made it difficult to arrange travel, housing and writing gigs. There was little support for the actual awardees as none of the winners were ever publicly acknowledged.” READ MORE

ORIGINAL POST 12.26.2019

The Sundance Film Festival is an environment where bold, creative, and distinctive voices are celebrated. And I’ve been looking forward to attending since officially launching Tinsel & Tine in 2010, but for one reason or another, (mainly financial) it’s taken me a decade to be on my way 🎞️

Very excited to have been approved for press credentials! Unfortunately, I didn’t receive the Sundance Institute Press Diversity Stipend, which is fantastic that they even do this as a way to make certain the fest has coverage from the most amount of diverse voices. But disappointing they had so many applicants, that not every deserving journalist could receive from their coffers.  I’m planning to attend regardless, just going to pile on to my already over-burdened credit cards. But then …

with encouragement from friends, family, & writer/producer Matthew A. Cherry via Twitter! I’ve decided to launch a fundraiser!

If you prefer to donate via Facebook
I’ve set up a fundraising page there too:

Tinsel & Tine provides year-round free promotion, sparking conversations and awareness, celebration and support of the movie industry from local to international Film / Filmmakers to studio driven Movies / Movie-Makers. Giving similar attention to Philly’s constant array of entertainments from dining to dance, theater to theme parties – and doesn’t make a dime. Not that I haven’t tried over the years. But I still think it’s a worthwhile and interesting endeavor, which I feel blessed to have the time to pursue.

January 10th will be the 10th Anniversary of me, editor Le Anne Lindsay’s, launching of Tinsel & Tine, and I can’t think of any better way to celebrate than to finally attend SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL in the year 2020!

I will be there from January 22nd – 28th in Park City, Utah, Salt Lake City.

You can contact me: tinseltine@gmail.com if you have any further questions.

Thank you in advance for your support whether it be in spirit or in cash $ 🙂
