Pennsylvania Film Industry Association (PaFIA) Fall Mixer Roundup & Interview with Videographer & Film Editor Jonathan Grossman

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor

On Wednesday September 19, 2013 I attended the PaFIA Fall Social & Mixer at Morgan’s Pier (221 N. Columbus Blvd) which was open to non-members.

There are times I mark things on my calendar to cover and then when the actual event is upon me, I get a little chicken and think maybe I won’t go.  I almost did that with this event which started at 8pm, but I couldn’t get it together and arrived at 9:15pm.  The funny part is, after I get some free food and a drink, I’m in total blogging mode!  Approaching people, Nikon and digital voice recorder at the ready, laughing, talking, you’d think I was a socialite, no one would ever know that I nearly decided to take to my bed; except as usual, I’m admitting way too much.

Anyway, The Pennsylvania Film Industry Association’s mission is to promote the film, television, and commercial industry in
Pennsylvania and to serve a strong collective voice to address common
issues in business circles and government offices. In other words, they, like the GPFO, work tirelessly to keep the PA Film Tax Credit Program going strong!  While also providing support and networking opportunities for their members.

Had fun chattng with these guys about the “48 Laws of Power”

Lft. Comedian/Writer/Actor Mike O’Donnell, host of a weekly Open Mic at Liberties every Wed. (2nd & Fairmount).

Mini Interview with
Filmmaker, Videographer, Editor – Jonny G!

T&T: I think being a professional videographer and editor is an awesome profession, but a) are you an aspiring filmmaker as well? b) what drew you to this end of the industry?

JG: I am an aspiring filmmaker.  I like being able to tell a story through images, whether the video be a narrative, documentary or music video.  I like videography and editing because they represent the ideal combination of art and technology.  I could master and manipulate the technology to tell a good story through whatever content that best complements the story.

T&T: Are you currently working on a film?

JG: I am currently working on a documentary about my late grandfather as a loving father, husband and role model.

T&T: Your favorite director – whose next movie you would LOVE to edit?

JG: I would be excited if I had the opportunity to edit a film of either David O’ Russell (Director of Philly’s Silver Linings Playbook click for post) or Martin Scorsese (still #1 director on most “in the business” lists!).

T&T: Favorite Philly Restaurant ?

JG: Whenever I travel from New York to Philadelphia, I like eating at McCormick and Schmick’s on Broad and Market.

T&T: Wow! Jonny must come back from NYC with some serious coin, cause McCormick & Schmick’s isn’t your typical, let’s just stop for a bite kinda place.

T&T: Favorite movie so far of 2013?

JG: Blue Jasmine (click for post)(Anyone following T&T knows this is at the top of my list too!)
