HAMILTON on Disney+ July 3, 2020

I hate feeling like the only person in the world who hasn’t seen Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s Broadway smash HAMILTON.  The touring show was in Philly last summer and immediately I downloaded the app to enter to win the $10 raffle tickets.  I suppose I should have just shelled out for full price tickets, but I’m usually pretty lucky with things like this; if I really want something it typically comes through for me.  But I entered day after day, and it played in Philly for like 3 months, yet I never won.

Then I said that’s okay, cause actually, I’ve always wanted to see it on Broadway; so I kept the app on my phone and entered almost everyday. I even got two people at work to enter for me on their phones.  I was constantly at the ready to be announced a lucky winner, drop everything, run for the Bolt Bus and be in NY in time for a little pre-theater dinner in Times Square.

And then COVID-19 struck! Broadway’s dark and so is the app 😢

But now I can look forward to seeing the show on Disney+ 4th of July weekend! (July 3rd to be exact) So glad we did shell out for the streaming service over the holidays.

It’s not really a movie, like that ridiculous CATS fiasco. Instead it’s a filming of the original 2016 Broadway show, but shot with enhanced, story-telling camera angles, close-ups and sweeping shots.

The 11-time Tony Award-winning musical was originally set to be released in theaters on Oct. 15, 2021.

Original Hamilton Cast:  Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton; Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson; Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler; Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr; Tony Award nominees Christopher Jackson as George Washington; Jonathan Groff as King George; Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton; and Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds; Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison; and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

Still, once the lights of Broadway are turned back on, I’m gonna get back to entering the raffle on my Hamilton app!
