Geeks in the Round: FANTASTIC FOUR (Black Tribbles Spoiled Tribbles)

Spoiled Tribbles Post-Screening Group Review:

FANTASTIC FOUR  (Podcast)

The reboot of FANTASTIC FOUR has hit. It’s been a very Marvel summer! See Tinsel & Tine’s Avengers:The Age of Ultron, Marvel Experience and Ant Man Posts.

I know I’m not alone in thinking – a reboot, already?  But then I tried to think back on my opinion of the 2005 version of Fantastic Four (pre-T&T) directed by Tim Story – and all I can remember is Julian McMahon played the Villain Victor Von Doom. I can’t tell you if he was a convincing Dr. Doom, just that because of  Dr. Christian Troy (Nip/Tuck) and Cole Turner (Charmed) I pretty much just love Julian McMahon. I also remember feeling Jessica Alba was a bit too sexy to be Sue Storm, at least from my recollection of the cartoon. And that Michael Chiklis is exactly what you’d imagine “The Thing” would look like underneath the rubble.

Well, time or not, a new cast has taken on the roles of stretchy Reed Richards (Miles Teller);  invisible force Sue Storm (Kata Mara); her brother the flaming torch Johnny Storm (Michale B. Jordan); Ben Grimm / The Thing (Jamie Bell) and arch nemesis Victor Von Doom / Dr. Doom (Toby Kebbell). Directed by Josh Trank (Chronicles).

The Black Tribbles were in the house, so after the screening of Fantastic Four 2015, they rounded up a group of us movie writer/bloggers for a Fantastic hash session and we dissected the hell outta this flick, both the merits and the misfires!

T &T’s Tribbles Score 3 outta 5 – BOTTOM LINE: For those who don’t have time to listen to the podcast Yes, the movie is three parts build up/origins story, it’s a long time before they get or use their powers, but it’s not boring or badly handled. It sets out to establish the team as friends and family, while attempting to make the Quantum Physics plausible and relatable.  The thing that is missing from the movie is the trademark Marvel, laugh out loud humor.
