PFS Film and Food in Olde City

I was already excited about blogging for Philadelphia Film Society, but now they’ve made it twice as nice by adding a Film [Tinsel] and Food [Tine] membership benefit. Members of PFS not only have access to Sneak Preview Screenings, but now also receive 10% discount at Old City Asian Bistro (located at 2nd and Market) before or after a preview screening. PFS hopes that members will treat Old City Asian Bistro as a post-screening gathering space for other Film Society members to meet and discuss the film they’ve just seen, all while enjoying great food in a comfortable setting. OCAB is a BYO establishment, and have graciously invited PFS members…

    Philly Restaurant – Amada

Only 2 out of 5 so far, and counting… I’m talking about dining at the eating establishments (Garces Restaurant Group) of Philadelphia’s renowned chef, Jose Garces: owner and executive chef of the city’s most acclaimed: Amada, an authentic Andalusian tapas bar; Tinto, a wine bar and restaurant inspired by the Basque region of Northern Spain and Southern France; Distrito, a spirited celebration of the vibrant culture and cuisine of Mexico City; Chifa, a Latin-Asian restaurant named after the Peruvian restaurants of the same name; and Village Whiskey, a classic American bar with over 80 whiskies and bar snacks. Over a year ago, I went to Chifa for lunch (read Tinsel…

Sci-Fi discussion follows PFS screening of “Alien”

In my last post, I included a favorite quote in regard to the joy of watching the unfolding of life piece by piece [click HERE to view post] Well, the next fun piece of the unfolding of my life, is being asked to blog for Philadelphia Film Society! I’ve tried to stay neutral when it comes to the rift between Philadelphia Cinema Alliance (CineFest & QFest) and Philadelphia Film Society (Philadelphia Film Festival) attending events for either camp and then blogging about it. Tinsel & Tine is still a free agent; I’ll just be doing double duty. When blogging for PFS, I will post on their site and link my…

Commentary- The Joneses, The Good The Bad and The Weird, Allen Iverson: No Crossover

What inevitably happens during a film festival, even a short film fest – I run out of time to write posts about each film I see in a timely fashion. Sometimes it’s because I’m trying to fit in other life between screenings, other times, I do too much socializing at the festivals, but mostly, I lack stamina, after I write one film commentary, I’m spent. So, better late than never, here’s commentary on the 3 remaining films I saw at the PFS Spring Preview: The Joneses – As I wrote in my festival announcement post, this was the one I wanted to see because of my affinity for both David…

    Philadelphia Film Festival Spring Preview

Philadelphia Film Festival Spring Preview, presented by Pennsylvania Hospital (click HERE for film schedule) opened last evening at the Prince Theater featuring complimentary candy and Tastykakes, so for the second night in a row, my dinner consisted of alcohol and cake! I’m a firm believer in aligning with the Universe, which in simple terms means when you really want something or to do something, focus, think about the benefit and the joy of it and believe it’s possible without contradiction. Not as easy as it sounds, and timing is not always up to you, but I have seen it work numerous times in my life and it makes me wonder…
