Blow The Man Down
The film starts off moody and atmospheric with fisherman singing sad songs in a small town off the coast of Maine. Priscilla (Sophie Lowe) and Mary Beth (Morgan Saylor) have just buried their mother Mary Margaret Connolly and it seems all the town has come for her repast; including Mary Margaret’s life long girlfriends, all now in their 70’s – Susie Gallagher (June Squibb), Doreen Burke (Marceline Hugot), and Gail Maguire (Annette O’Toole). We find out later one important old friend is absent, Enid Nora Devlin (Margo Martindale) and the why is the crux of the story.

BURDEN
Unlike last year's "Best of Enemies" starring Taraji P. Henson & Sam Rockwell, where the movie is told from the POV of a racist white male, having a come to Jesus change of heart; only the trailers make on that Henson's character, a black woman fighting for social justice in her community, will be the center. "Burden" starring Garret Hedlund lets us know right from the trailer and the name, that Mike Burden, KKK member, is the protagonist of the piece, and it's his story of abuse, PTSD, hatred and a surprisingly touching love story that's the focus of the movie.

The Invisible Man
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Yes! This is a GO SEE IT!!!! Writer/Director Leigh Whannell has presented us with a fine thriller starting scene 1 – You become immediately invested in the escape without having seen who, why, where an escape is even needed. The movie would be very good with another actress in the main role, but of course, my girl crush, Elisabeth Moss kicks it into great! She’s so good at making you feel her pain and share in her victories. I’m not gonna say much more cause I don’t want to give anything away. But I will say, I have read H.G. Well‘s book “The Invisible Man”…

Mae Morton (Issa Rae) is a museum curator grappling with the death of her estranged mother, a famed photographer who leaves her daughter a letter explaining her journey. The letter leaves Mae unsure of how to proceed, until she connects with journalist Michael Block (Lakeith Stanfield), who is working on his own story about Mae’s mom. The story travels back and forth from present to past in a languorous mode, this is a film, not a movie. Then we have the Birds of Prey aspect: Rosie Perez plays detective Renee Montoya who’s trying to solve a mob hit case involving a missing diamond, in which Harley’s gotten embroiled. The Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is seeking revenge for her family also connected to the diamond. Black Canary’s (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) a night club singer for bad guy Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor) who mistakenly gets further involved in her boss’s goings on than she wants, after taking pity on Harley and helping her out of a jam.
