The Great Gatsby 1974 vs The Great Gatsby 2013
Carey Mulligan & Leonardo DiCaprio vs Mia Farrow and Robert Redford Did I in fall in love with director Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge (2001) (starring Nicole Kidman & Ewan McGregor) not really, but I did love his vision – the spectacle, strangeness, musicality and vaudevillian intention. I anticipated similar pomp and splash for Lurhmann’s latest inspiration to remake The Great Gatsby. And when it comes to the big party scene this is what we get, verve, elaborate costumes, gaiety, circus like atmosphere, whirlwind of camera angles, music and dancing, something resembling a scene from a Ziegfield show! So, obviously Luhrmann was inspired to recreate the Jay Gatsby parties, but was…

More Icing than Cake: THE BIG WEDDING
Susan Sarandon age 66, caught in the act with her panties down, makes being on the other side of the hill, sexy! And in terms of style, energy and love of life, same goes for Diane Keaton and Robert DeNiro. I’m sure it comes as no surprise, that these three are the reason to see writer/director Justin Zackham (screen writer of The Bucket List) new movie The Big Wedding. XPN Music Film Festival Round Up 2013
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor The XPN Music Film Festival was the second collaboration of the radio station WXPN/and Philly music venue World Cafe Live produced by The Philadelphia Film Society. I got to a few more screenings last year (XPN Music Film Fest 2012), just kinda dipped in and out this year, but what I experienced was worth while! Opening Night was Thursday April 11th- You can’t go wrong opening with something Beatles inspired. In a post apocalyptic world (click for T & T Oblivion post) all that will be left are cockroaches dancing to The Beatles. Honestly though, the opening night film GOOD OL’ FREDA (Director Ryan White)…

Blog Contributor: 42 Hits a Home Run! (Jackie Robinson Story)
by Christopher “Flood the Drummer”® Norris I recently posted an ad on Tinsel & Tine for a male blog contributor. I felt there were some testosterone driven films not being covered on account of me not being eager to write about them; and also thought perhaps any male readers might enjoy another perspective from time to time. My association with Collaborate Philly came through for me, as a member, Chris “Flood the Drummer” Norris expressed his interest. Chris is a Philly journalist and musician with a web based company called Techbookonline. I went to see 42 with Chris (my two cents in comment section) but I asked Chris to write…

Unexpected Treat: THE SAPPHIRES
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor DELIGHTFULLY RICH AND ENTERTAINING! The Sapphires is everything Sparkle was supposed to be, but even with the help of the late Whitney Houston, couldn’t manage. If you describe The Sapphires as just three sisters and a cousin form a singing group in the 1960’s, then you’re gonna yawn and say, I’ll just watch Dreamgirls again. But you’d be wrong. The Sapphires is not only different because the girls are Australian Aborigines, with a white Irish screw up as their mentor/manager (Chris O’Dowd). It’s different because it just hits every beat and note to perfection and I’m not talking about the Soul soundtrack. Gail (Deborah Mailman)…
