What Happens If You’re an Eye Donor? : I ORIGINS

    August 14, 2014 /

By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I am just fascinated by science and technology. The Stories that I’m interested in telling are very much inspired by science and scientists and then finding the emotional, profound thing that one stumbles upon in life and how that connects to a specific scientific paradigm – Mike Cahill (writer/director of Another Earth & I Origins). More and more the lines between science and matters of spirit are blurred. Scientists study faith and its affect on healing, doctors prescribe yoga and meditation; in actuality, these two studies have always informed each other, after all, Galileo and Da Vinci were both artists and scientists.  Mike Cahill obviously…

Goose Island Beer Migration Week in Philly RECAP

    August 13, 2014 /

My latest blogging invitation came from Chicago based Goose Island Beer, a craft beer company started by John Hall, 25 years ago, upon his return from traveling throughout Europe. Goose Island Beer is currently on a Migration tour to visit beer loving cities in the US and one of the first stops of course, was Philly! The evening started at MANNA (2323 Ranstead) where we were invited to a Pretzel Cooking Demonstration, Beer Pairing Class.  I thought I’d left work in time to make a 6pm event start time, but I didn’t know about the trolley work being done between 40th & 22nd street, this completely threw me off schedule…

    Foodie Film: THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY

    August 9, 2014 /

by Denine R. Gorniak, Contributor Far too many foodie movies have not yet been covered on Tinsel & Tine despite the fact they speak to my brand.  I was about to miss another opportunity with The Hundred-Foot Journey, (Produced by Steven Spielberg & Oprah Winfrey) as I had conflicts with both screenings, but to the rescue, my foodie friend and fellow blogger Denine Gorniak – The Bicycle-Chef, covered the Prince Music Theater screening, which included a post panel discussion with Philly Chefs – Marc Summer and Marc Vetri, and as you’ll read, she did fabulous job! – Le Anne Lindsay, Editor The Hundred-Foot Journey Review    The movie, The Hundred-…

    Favorite Moments: BOYHOOD

    August 7, 2014 /

How I wish I could have filmed the last 12-15 years of my life, because I swear it often feels like I've done nothing, barely enjoyed myself, have made no progress, can't think of a single anecdote to tell and the small significant moments of in-significances, just don't seem to be stored in my brain...

Biopic Full of Funk: GET ON UP (James Brown)

    August 1, 2014 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I know biopics often get a bad name, they can be cliched and predictable or the reverse, so creatively told that you lose the gist of the story and the heart of the intended subject.  I tend to like them good or bad, from offerings like The Runaways (Cherie Currie & Joan Jett) which didn’t quite hit the mark, to Ray (Ray Charles) and Walk The Line (Johnny Cash) that rightfully became critically acclaimed films.  I’m just fascinated with the whole rise and fall aspect of telling life stories.  When it comes to director Tate Taylor (The Help) efforts to tell the beginnings, middle and…
