Philly Spotlight: SEX WITH STRANGERS Review
Writers in the 21st Century – SEX WITH STRANGERS By Tinsel & Tine Editor, Le Anne Lindsay I got a chance to see Laura Eason’s play Sex with Strangers directed by David Saint, at the Philadelphia Theater Company (running April 8 – May 8th) and felt immediately taken with the comfy/cozy set depicting a writer’s retreat on a snowy night. During our only snow storm of 2016, I was camped out at a luxury condo in AC overlooking the sea, where I could blog to my heart’s content, so I could appreciate the lead character Olivia (Joanna Rhinehart) reclined on the sofa, in front of the fireplace, drinking wine…

A Little Film, A Little Food: DEMOLITION / New BBQ Menu at NICK’S IN OLD CITY
Jake Gyllenhaal Good and Crazy Again By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I was looking at Jake Gyllenhaal’s body of work. Because it seems like he’s one of those actors you see all the time (since “Brokeback Mountain”), but then when I really looked at his recent movies “Accidental Love” “SouthPaw” “Prisoners” “Everest” “Nightcrawler” the only one I’ve seen is “Nightcrawlers”, which is excellent! His portrayal of that weird, desperate, narcissistic freelance news cameraman is chilling. Similarly in this movie, “Demolition”, you’re pulled in by Gyllenhaal, despite the character’s lack of feelings and erratic behavior. You must destroy to rebuild or as German philosopher Friedrich Nietzche would claim, “You must have…

Fireside Chat with ICE CUBE & DEON COLE – BARBERSHOP 3: THE NEXT CUT
By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Half the fun of writing Tinsel & Tine is never knowing what kind of exciting invitation is right around the corner – who would have thought I’d get a chance to interview rapper, writer, producer, mogul, actor Ice Cube! Of course, it was hard not to ask questions about Straight Outta Compton, but I knew I needed to be a professional and stick to things pertaining to the movie at hand – Barbershop 3: The Next Cut, which I screened the night before with Cube and comedian/cast member Deon Cole on the red carpet. Sidenote: I did however, get Cube to autograph my Straight Outta…

I was only able to attend on Saturday, and saw 4 wonderful films, but these were the two that resonated with me: Guerrillas In Our Midst (1992) by Amy Harrison about the Guerilla Girls an anonymous group of Women’s art activists who started in 1985 to call attention to the large disparity between the…

Gorniak Goes for Gold: CITY OF GOLD (foodie doc)
The key to deciphering both the city it beautifully depicts and the man who eats it best – City of Gold By Tinsel & Tine Contributor Denine Gorniak (The Bicycle-Chef) What Jonathan Gold, Los Angeles Times food critic/writer, has done for food writing journalism and for the restaurants that he loves, the movie, City of Gold has done for Jonathan Gold and Los Angeles and its surrounding environs – it has planted taco covered kisses on them. The movie is a love-letter to both Mr. Gold and Los Angeles. The documentary turns the notion that there’s no “there, there” in LA and flips it over like the many tortillas that…
