Ode to: NATIONAL COFFEE DAY (Best Coffee To Go)
TODAY IS NATIONAL COFFEE DAY! Coffee is my drug of choice – I love the ritual of it, the smell of it brewing, the taste on its own, but particularly with a goodie or pizza or at a diner with a burger. In fact, I normally ask the waitress to hold my coffee until the meal comes because so many foods taste better with coffee. Drinking coffee gives me an elated feeling, not just alert, but for about an hour or so I feel actually happy and then a nice level off to normal. But… Later I crash and get weepy and moody or my adrenaline system feels on…

What A: RUSH (Directed by Ron Howard)
I had every real intention of being a race car driver when I grew up. For my 6th birthday, I got the cutest yellow race car, the kind you can sit in and drive. Today it would have been electrically powered, but back then it had foot pedals. Then as I got older, each Christmas, I would ask for a bigger and better race track. Before drifting off to sleep, I’d imagine the controls in my hand and how great it was going to be to speed around that track and beat my sister. At the arcade, I cared not a wit for Pacman or Donkey Kong, I went…

Do You Know How Many Calories are in Guacamole?: ENOUGH SAID
Once you reach a certain age an you’re either still single or single again, you’re sorta like a used book on Amazon; anyone looking to buy the book thinks why didn’t they keep the book? Why is the price so reasonable? How worn is it? Maybe it’s better to buy a new one. Seeing the recommendations from other buyers who rate the sellers, helps a lot with your decision to purchase a used book. And this is basically the premise of writer/director Nicole Holofcener’s latest movie Enough Said. T&T Enough Said Synopsis: Eva (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is a middle-aged, divorced woman with a daughter who’s about to go off to…

Acclaimed Broadway Musical ONCE Coming to Philly!
I’ve only seen the movie Once – well, once, in the theater in 2006, two years before starting Tinsel & Tine, so I never wrote about it, but it’s always stuck with me. There’s a strangely magical simplicity to this little love story between a Dublin guitarist / singer-songwriter (Glen Hansard) who makes a living by fixing vacuum cleaners and this Czech girl (Markéta Irglová) who plays piano when she gets a chance, and does odd jobs by day and takes care of her mom and her daughter by night. The soundtrack also struck a chord with me – particularly the song “Falling Slowly”, which I still listen to fairly…

Pennsylvania Film Industry Association (PaFIA) Fall Mixer Roundup & Interview with Videographer & Film Editor Jonathan Grossman
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor On Wednesday September 19, 2013 I attended the PaFIA Fall Social & Mixer at Morgan’s Pier (221 N. Columbus Blvd) which was open to non-members. There are times I mark things on my calendar to cover and then when the actual event is upon me, I get a little chicken and think maybe I won’t go. I almost did that with this event which started at 8pm, but I couldn’t get it together and arrived at 9:15pm. The funny part is, after I get some free food and a drink, I’m in total blogging mode! Approaching people, Nikon and digital voice recorder at the ready,…
