Simply Marvel-ous: The 4 Comicbook Movies You Don’t Want to Miss
I’m psyched to see “The Wolverine” and the first “Thor” wasn’t bad, so I’m looking forward to that too. Chris Hemsworth was my choice for sexiest superhero until the new Superman “Man of Steel” Henry Cavill came bursting onto the screen last night! Now he’s got my vote. I’ve always preferred dark haired guys anyway, but when Hemsworth came on the scene, he toppled Robert Downey, Jr who is now #3. Hugh Jackman lost a tinge of sexiness for me after doing Broadway, it’s been a while since he was my #1, alas Wolverine has now fallen to 4th place. With Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk) taking up the rear as…

Diane (dianeroka.com) and I continued on from New Haven (See Tasting Tour) because she was invited to Montauk NY for a project to capture the local flavor of the place by drawing portraits, much like a photographer captures a scene. Knowing we were to stay at the East Deck, I decided to try and interview the owners of the famed food truck in Ditch Plains called The Ditch Witch. Grant Monahan Captured by Diane Roka Montauk NY I struck gold! Not only did Grant Monahan (Ditch Witch is a family biz) respond, I caught him…

Mischief Night on Steroids: THE PURGE
Jesus said “For you always have the poor with you; but you do not always have Me. (Matthew 26:11). In the future, if things go the way of writer/director James DeMonaco’s (click for good interview) imagining, we will not only experience Godlessness, but also a method for keeping the poor down to a very few. The Purge evokes a wicked, nightmarish quality of tension and murderous intent, but this isn’t what makes it frightening. The real fear comes from the political and social issues it examines on inequality & class, the natural inclination of humans towards violence and what could happen if ever a radically Republicany/Teapartyish/NRAer type group were to…

Tom Brandt: Thali Too, Oaxaca Kitchen & Thali Tasting Tour – Part 1 of 3
Thomas Brandt Last year I interviewed Film Buff & Foodie Tom Brandt a restaurateur in the New Haven Connecticut area. Life’s little obstacles prevented me from being able to take him up on his offer to actually visit the restaurants until this May, but OMG was it worth the wait!!! Together with his partner James Beard honoree and Iron chef winner Chef Prasad Chirnomula, they run a total of 5 restaurants – Thali in New Caanan & Ridgefield, and Thali, Thali Too (Vegetarian) and Oaxaca Kitchen in New Haven. Thali specializes in imaginative dishes based on traditional India fare. Oaxaca’s creative cuisine is based on authentic Mexican dishes. I loved…
