Movie Blog Post: GIRLS TRIP
Tinsel & Tine’s Look at GIRLS TRIP By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I first saw the trailer for Girls Trip back in like February or March and thought it looked pretty good and in addition to the known cast of Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Queen Latifah, I saw it had the team of super producer Will Packer (THINK LIKE A MAN, Ride Along, ALMOST CHRISTMAS, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON and many more) and the talents of director Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man and THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY) but still I worried that the movie would fall flat, that it wouldn’t have cross over appeal both to other races…

Movie Blog Post: THE DRESSMAKER
A TOWN TRANSFORMED BY OVER THE TOP ELEGANT DAY WEAR By Tinsel & Tine Editor, Le Anne Lindsay I fell in love with the trailer for this film, THE DRESSMAKER (Dir. Jocelyn Moorhouse, based on the novel of the same name by Rosalie Ham) the odd tone and vampy quality sucked me in immediately and so did the first 3/4 of the movie. Then it takes a really hard turn into sadness and black comedy. Sure, I get it, the story’s about a prodigal daughter’s unwelcome return home, so you anticipate repercussions; still I never expected it to get so dark; was hoping I could recommend it to my…

Gothic Romance: REBECCA & CRIMSON PEAK Comparison
I’ve yet to see writer/director Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), as much as I’ve heard it praised for it’s imaginative design and brilliant direction. I feared it might be too strange or trippy. Now having seen CRIMSON PEAK, I no longer worry about Pan’s Labyrinth being over the top and plan to watch it posthaste. (Post update 1/10/16 – did see it, found it engrossing, strange and wondrous). Please don’t go into Crimson Peak looking for a Blumhouse Productions type horror movie, cause you won’t find it, you’ll be disappointed and you’ll want to mock this film, which won’t be fair. Crimson Peak is being categorized as a…

Guest Blogger Melissa O’Donnell: THE VISIT
by Melissa O’Donnell THE VISIT MOVIE REVIEW FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF A PHILLY BASED ACTRESS I was granted the privilege of attending an early screening of M. Night Shyamalan’s THE VISIT, at United Artists Theater in King of Prussia, PA through Tinsel and Tine. I jumped at the opportunity as both an avid film fan and Philadelphia based actor. I love seeing what Shyamalan releases because I know what he is capable of as a writer and filmmaker, but almost more so, I love what he does for the film industry in the state of Pennsylvania. He constantly brings his work to his home state, employing local cast and crew,…

An Outside Look at : F. Gary Gray’s N.W.A Biopic STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON
By Tinsel &Tine Editor, Le Anne Lindsay If you’re thinking, I don’t wanna see STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON cause I’ve never been a fan of “Gangsta Rap” or “Reality Rap” as N.W.A referred to it in the late 80’s early 90’s, think again, cause you don’t have to know anything about any of the players to appreciate the fact that an American story, defining a time period in the now accepted mainstream culture of hip hop, has been well documented. F. Gary Gray’s movie is a feast for hip-hop connoisseurs and novices alike as it charts the West Coast rap superstars’ meteoric rise, fractious in-fighting and discovery that the music…
