Acclaimed Broadway Musical ONCE Coming to Philly!
I’ve only seen the movie Once – well, once, in the theater in 2006, two years before starting Tinsel & Tine, so I never wrote about it, but it’s always stuck with me. There’s a strangely magical simplicity to this little love story between a Dublin guitarist / singer-songwriter (Glen Hansard) who makes a living by fixing vacuum cleaners and this Czech girl (Markéta Irglová) who plays piano when she gets a chance, and does odd jobs by day and takes care of her mom and her daughter by night. I had planned for my Valentine’s Day post to be a write up on the new Nicholas Sparks movie Safe Haven, but I had a major break with my best friend of 23 years (see facebook post) and never made it to the screening. The movie looks super schmaltzy anyway. Poor Julianne Hough, she was so adorable and animated on DWTS, I would like to see her make it as an actress, but she’s only been in totally awful movies – Burlesque, Footloose, Rock of Ages, and from the trailers of this movie, I’m not sure about the chemistry between she and Josh Duhamel.
