    SHAZAM!

    April 5, 2019 /

Directed by David F. Sandberg and starring Zachary Levi as a 14-year-old kid in a grown man’s superpower enhanced body. Loved this concept, just wished his Shazam personality and his Billy Batson (Asher Angel) personalities were a little more well matched. Even if Billy didn’t have the weight of the world hanging on his shoulders as a foster kid constantly running away to look for his real mom – he still wouldn’t be as childishly goofy and gleeful as he becomes when he’s Shazam. However, it’s this goof that makes the movie very fun and wonderfully silly. I think it’s ironic that although Disney owns Marvel, these last two D.C.…

    Fighting with My Family

    February 22, 2019 /

A feel good, family dramedy, with excellent beats. You don’t have to be a wrestling fan to fall in love with Paige and her crazy, exuberant, dedicated family. I didn’t score it higher only because the traditional sports underdog tropes are not very inventive, yet still effective. I also LOVE that the real wrestler took her stage name #Paige from Rose McGowan’s character from my all time favorite show #Charmed ! “Fighting With My Family is Executive Produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson based on the 2012 documentary “The Wrestlers: Fighting with My Family”, depicting the rise to fame of female WWE star Paige. Much to my surprise we were…

    First Man

    October 11, 2018 /

Directed by Damien Chazelle (WhipLash & La La Land), written by Josh Singer (The Post & Spotlight) with Ryan Gosling once again Chazelle’s lead actor; in this he plays the very stoic and reserved first astronaut on the moon, Neil Armstrong. I suppose technically this is a biopic because it’s based on the official biography of Neil Armstrong by James R. Hansen, but the beats don’t play out like a biopic. It’s more the idea of how this dream, this notion of putting a man on the moon came to fruition; seen through the eyes of Neil Armstrong and his wife Jan (Claire Foy (The Crown) and their children. The…

    A Star is Born

    October 1, 2018 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor A STAR IS BORN deserves all the buzz its garnered leading up to it. It’s the first film I’ve seen in 2018 that feels Oscar worthy, other than this small indie I saw called Puzzle, which unfortunately has no buzz. Bradley Cooper has now proven himself to be a super talent, directing himself and Lady Gaga in this remake which is rich and cinematic. I love the soundtrack especially the songs from the early part of the film that have a country rock sound. I’ve listened to the track “The Shallow” several times on Youtube already. His vocal voice is surprisingly professionally soulful and his…
