mother!
My first impression of this film by auteur Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) is that it’s wack, self-indulgent and a sheer waste of time. But then, given more time to ruminate on it, break it down, look at the allegories, I did discover some beauty in the madness. David O. Russell’s 8th Movie: JOY
Red Wine on Teak Floors = “Joy” By Le Anne Lindsay, Tinsel & Tine Editor The first thing I liked about JOY, David O. Russell’s latest vehicle starring Jennifer Lawrence, was the trailer. In other words, she has the presence to carry off a movie that’s mostly production and atmosphere. I mean, I get the creativity behind Suzanne Collins’ Dystopian world, brought to life by directors Gary Ross and then Francis Lawrence. And…

Jennifer Lawrence in WINTER’S BONE / Q&A with dir Debra Granik
How long was the pre-production period? The actors, Jen and John Hawkes (who played Teardrop) came down a week ahead of time. Jen had to do a lot of work learning how to use the farm machinery and the squirrel skinning. John visited some bars and got recordings of people's voices in the community to learn accents. "This was a crucial part of the production, to have time before rolling to get acclimated and steeped and immersed in the groove."
