    October 22, 2017 /

Tinsel & Tine’s Look at Philadelphia Film Society & PNC Arts Alive PHILLY FILM SHOWCASE By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Every month PFS supports local Philadelphia Filmmakers of all ages, levels, and backgrounds with a screening of selected films shown at the Prince Theater Black Box. Each Showcase is followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, cast and crew to elicit feedback from the audience. Tickets are FREE, through PFS On Us presented by PNC Arts Alive,  although donations to Philly Film Showcase are welcome. I always have plans to go to more of these but often have a conflict.  I did get to attend the September Showcase, and since…

    Movie Blog Post: THE HERO

    June 28, 2017 /

Laura Prepon (That’s 70’s Show and Orange is the New Black) plays Lee Hayden’s love interest. You’d think that would be icky, with the age difference, instead you really get the sense that they’re responding as two people who recognize a bit of themselves in the other...

    Movie Blog Post: THE DRESSMAKER

    September 30, 2016 /

A TOWN TRANSFORMED BY OVER THE TOP ELEGANT DAY WEAR  By Tinsel & Tine Editor, Le Anne Lindsay I fell in love with the trailer for this film, THE DRESSMAKER (Dir. Jocelyn Moorhouse, based on the novel of the same name by Rosalie Ham) the odd tone and vampy quality sucked me in immediately and so did the first 3/4 of the movie. Then it takes a really hard turn into sadness and black comedy. Sure, I get it, the story’s about a prodigal daughter’s unwelcome return home, so you anticipate repercussions; still I never expected it to get so dark; was hoping I could recommend it to my…

    THE BILLBOARD BOYS (Documentary)

    September 18, 2016 /

WE’RE LIVING HERE IN ALLENTOWN – THE BILLBOARD BOYS By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I think most of us agree the first Reality TV show was MTV’s The Real World and the first competition reality show – Mark Burnett’s Survivor.  But did you know there was an event that both preceded and combined these two institutions? Back in 1982 the radio station WSAN came up with a publicity stunt that went viral, way before we ever knew the term, and in all places, Allentown PA.  Producer Frank J. Petka, of Tag Visual Media and his partner Writer/Director Pat Taggart from Roxborough and Southwest Philly respectively, are set to release a…

Movie Blog Post: BFFs starring Tara Karsian & Andrea Grano

    June 18, 2016 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Indie Film Spotlight: BFFs by Writers, Producers, Co-Stars Tara Karsian and Andrea Grano Looking for a few days of vacation and amusement, two best friends pretend to be lovers while attending a couple’s weekend workshop. I received a screener for this film, BFFs,which premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.  Kat (Tara Karsian) is having one of those weeks where you break up with your long term boyfriend right before your birthday and your mother’s gift to you is a weekend couples retreat. Kat’s best friend Samantha (Andrea Grano) with easy familiarity appropriates most of Kat’s birthday gifts for herself, including trying to figure out…
