QFEST Opening Film: G.B.F.
Last night QFEST (LGBT Film Festival in Philadelphia) opened with G.B.F. an acronym for Gay Best Friend. This movie could quite possibly be the Clueless for this generation and Sasha Pieterse (Pretty Little Liars) today’s Alicia Silverstone. G.B.F. (which premiered at TriBeCa 2013) is set in a high school where no kid has yet to come out. However, there is a gender equality organization looking for someone to defend. There’s also 3 major school cliques – one run by a perfect blonde “mean girl” bombshell, Fawcett (Sasha Pieterse); a fierce, black, drama queen, Caprice (Xosha Roquemore); and a “purity” Mormon, Shley (Andrea Bowen). Tinsel & Tine’s Look at Mike Mill’s BEGINNERS Beginners is a love story: love between a father and son / son and mother / a man and woman / a man and his father’s dog. Oliver (Ewan McGregor) is a handsome, talented commercial artist, who has recently lost his father, Hal (Christopher Plummer) to cancer.
