Jojo Rabbit
Writer/director Taika Waititi (“Thor Ragnarok”) created a Wes Anderson-esque offbeat Anne Frank-ish comedy, which won the People’s Choice Awards at TIFF. JOJO RABBIT is set near the end of World War II. Jojo Betzler, played by a remarkable young actor (Roman Griffin Davis) who could give both Jacob Tremblay (Room) and the Stranger Things kids a run for the money) is a German 10-year-old Nazi enthusiast so zealously ready to join the Third Reich, his imaginary friend is a wacky Adolf Hitler (played by Waititi). This is Roman’s first professional role and he really seemed to understand the whole tone of the movie and how to play it straight with…

Movie Blog Post: THE SHAPE OF WATER
Tinsel & Tine’s Look at THE SHAPE OF WATER By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I stated in my End of the Year Wrap Up Post, that only very special movies, or special to me, would get a full post, and all other wide release films would be reviewed on my #MiniMovieReview page. It’s not yet the new year and already writer/producer/director Guillermo del Toro’s THE SHAPE OF WATER, with 7 Golden Globe Nominations, falls into the first category. “The Shape of Water” is a love story, espionage thriller and monster movie all rolled into one. Sally Hawkins plays a mute cleaning woman at a high-security government facility in early 1960s…

Movie Blog Post: MY COUSIN RACHEL
Tinsel & Tine Highlights: MY COUSIN RACHEL By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I’ve mentioned many times that my all time favorite movie is Hitchcock’s REBECCA (click for T&T post) based on a novel by Daphne du Maurier so it’s odd that I have yet to see the original 1952 My Cousin Rachel also based upon a du Maurier story, starring Olivia de Havilland (miscast, according to du Maurier) and a very young Richard Burton. I’ll have to rectify that soon; however, I had been looking forward to this remake starring Rachel Weisz & Sam Clafin (Me Before You) and I’m happy to say this version of the Gothic film did…

GIFTED (Chris Evans)
It would seem this emotional cocktail of extreme brilliance, an overbearing parent, overwhelming self-expectations with possible postpartum depression, adding the final blow, caused Diane to take her own life, leaving her baby daughter Mary (Mckenna Grace) in the care of her brother Frank (Chris Evans)...

A Little Film, A Little Food: DEMOLITION / New BBQ Menu at NICK’S IN OLD CITY
Jake Gyllenhaal Good and Crazy Again By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I was looking at Jake Gyllenhaal’s body of work. Because it seems like he’s one of those actors you see all the time (since “Brokeback Mountain”), but then when I really looked at his recent movies “Accidental Love” “SouthPaw” “Prisoners” “Everest” “Nightcrawler” the only one I’ve seen is “Nightcrawlers”, which is excellent! His portrayal of that weird, desperate, narcissistic freelance news cameraman is chilling. Similarly in this movie, “Demolition”, you’re pulled in by Gyllenhaal, despite the character’s lack of feelings and erratic behavior. You must destroy to rebuild or as German philosopher Friedrich Nietzche would claim, “You must have…
