    X-Men Dark Phoenix

    June 8, 2019 /

X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX is meant to be the ENDGAME for Fox’s X-MEN franchise, as Disney/Marvel are poised to takeover. And what’s that gonna consist of? I just can’t stand the thought of another reboot. Please, just start over with new X-Men. We’re good with the 2 sets of X-Men core characters – young and mature, and up until this movie, they pretty much dovetailed nicely so that you didn’t have a problem with the stories or casting of the 2nd set of movies (First Class, Days of Future Past, Apocalypse) negating the stories of the 1st set of Movies (X-men, X-Men United and X-men Last Stand) but here’s where things…

    Alita Battle Angel

    January 31, 2019 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Directed by Robert Rodriguez written and produced by James Cameron, based on 90’s Japanese cyberpunk manga series created by Yukito Kishiro. I often think about all these post-apocalyptic worlds created for our entertainment, and cringe at the possible self-fulfilling prophecy of it all. History shows us the collective conscious can create, shift and build our societies and environment, so what does it mean that we’ve been steeped in movies like: 12 Monkeys, The Road, Mad Max, Children of Men, War of the Worlds, World War Z, The Day After Tomorrow, District 9, Zombieland, Blade Runner, Ready Player One, Planet of the Apes and so many…

Halloween Post: PHILLY INDEPENDENT FILM SHOWCASE

    October 22, 2017 /

Tinsel & Tine’s Look at Philadelphia Film Society & PNC Arts Alive PHILLY FILM SHOWCASE By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Every month PFS supports local Philadelphia Filmmakers of all ages, levels, and backgrounds with a screening of selected films shown at the Prince Theater Black Box. Each Showcase is followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, cast and crew to elicit feedback from the audience. FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

    November 20, 2016 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor  A WORLD DIVIDED The Hamilton cast vs Trump/Pence controversy is interesting, isn’t it?  I’m in total agreement with the Broadway Musical, both in that they felt it was within their “brand” so to speak, to address Vice President elect Pence on the issues of multi-culturalism, which could be at stake during the upcoming Administration; and that they waited until after the show had completely ended, including curtain calls, to make the statement, showing concern for the proper handling of such an unprecedented act. Later, I started gathering my research for this Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them post and was struck by the similarities…

Guest Blogger: Top 5 Sci-Fi Movies by Philly Sci-Fi Author Rorie Still

    January 6, 2016 /

Tinsel & Tine Editor Le Anne Lindsay Intro: I met Rorie Still last March at the International Women’s Day Celebration (click for post) held at Cynwyd Station Cafe and Tea Room, and as is always the case in Philly, we discovered we knew a lot of the same people and have gotten together to chat a time or two. Rorie has written a compilation of Sci-Fi/Fantasy stories called Flashbang: Sci-Fi Stories That Will Blow Your Mind , which I’ve been wanting to read, but when I turned 40 my brain stopped being able to read anything but articles, blog posts and research. It’s awful – both my sisters have written books, they’re…
