EMPIRE Talk Week 1 (FOX TV) Lee Daniels, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard
There’s no better feeling than to find out people are watching what you’re doing, I’m not talking about Fox’s new drama Empire yet, created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, I’m talking about me, and Tinsel & Tine. A PR Rep for the show and FOX TV contacted me to ask if I wanted to be a Blog Ambassador for #EMPIRE. And it didn’t just come with an email, it came with a phone call from LA! I was told they’d been following my movie tweets and posts and felt T&T would be a good fit. Auspicious beginning to 2015! So now I’ll be watching the show EVERY WEDNESDAY at…

Fernando J. Scarpa (Doradus /Jay ROCCO) Update for 2015!
I got a chance to meet and interview LA writer/director, Fernando J. Scarpa in Philadelphia this past summer. His short film Doradus (click for T&T post) was well received at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival 2014 (click for T&T PIFF2015 meets PhillyTechWeek) In fact, it was the first time Scarpa had a chance to view the film with an audience of strangers, having only shown Doradus rough cuts to friends, family and colleagues. But after seeing the trailer several times, I had to admit the energy seemed crazy and fast paced, so I was curious to see if it lived up to the hype – it did, but not as I’d anticipated. The pacing is good (Directed by Miguel Arteta / Screenplay by Rob Lieber), but it’s not really a zany movie – even though, a series of No Good, Very Bad things do happen to the Cooper family, on one, incredibly long, very full day.…

Favorite Moments: BOYHOOD
How I wish I could have filmed the last 12-15 years of my life, because I swear it often feels like I've done nothing, barely enjoyed myself, have made no progress, can't think of a single anecdote to tell and the small significant moments of in-significances, just don't seem to be stored in my brain...

Wish I had loved it: WISH I WAS HERE
All of these themes are great to explore in an Indie-ish/dram-edy, and it is an enjoyable movie, the issue being it's overly earnest and heavy handed in its sentimentality. For instance, when Grace cuts off all her hair and Aidan takes his daughter to get a wig, he says, "You can pick out any wig in the store as long as it's as unique and amazing as you"...
