Magic in the Wrong Hands: WINTER’S TALE

    February 14, 2014 /

If there are two things I love more than film and food, it’s magic and romance. There is a part of me that truly believes when I finally take the time to commit to it, I have a book inside me to rival the stories of King Arthur and Camelot, Star Wars, Romeo and Juliet, Gone with the Wind, and Harry Potter.  A story with the perfect blend of symbolic spirituality and philosophical universalism, a story that brings alive the most alluring star crossed lovers who find each other throughout time and space.  A messages that touches the most cynical of hearts and is just damn good fun to…

Serving up Mr. Darcy : AUSTENLAND

    August 30, 2013 /

Then we get to meet the men.  All hired actors, paid to be players in these women's fantasy of courtship and hot elegance. If you've ever been to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire you get the picture.  There's of course a not as good looking version of Colin Firth (J.J. Fields) a dark haired stable boy (Bret McKenzie) a gallant popinjay (James Callis) and a super sexy Captain from the West Indies (Ricky Whittle).

Candi’s Corner: The Immortal Intruments: City of Bones

    August 21, 2013 /

Keeping the Trend of Strong Females Going: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Review by Candice Cordelia Ever since Twilight made its entree into movie theaters six years ago, audiences, especially of the female variety, have been seeking stronger female characters on film. Television had Buffy, Dana Scully, and Khaleesi, but where on film was the next Ellen Ripley for young girls to model themselves after?  The answer to Bella Swan’s swooning, was Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Katniss, without superpowers, used her common sense and intelligence to best her competition under a totalitarian government. The second installment of The Hunger Games movie trilogy, Catching Fire, won’t be out until November,…

Clary and Jace in Philly – The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Interviews

    August 17, 2013 /

I got a chance to meet the two leads and the author from the upcoming movie The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones – Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Cassandra Clare. This is the latest in young adult fantasy fiction to capture the imaginations of those who long for a world of magic, monsters and mortal danger.  In 2007 author Cassandra Clare introduced young adult readers to the reluctant warrior, Clary Fray (Collins), in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, the first entry in what would become a fantasy-adventure empire. In Clare’s carefully constructed magical world, a young woman finds herself surrounded by warlocks, vampires, werewolves, demons—and the mysterious Shadowhunters,…

Candi’s Corner: THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER

    November 7, 2012 /

I met a lovely, fun, bright freelance writer named Candace Cordelia Smith at the BlackStar Film Festival, so I asked her if she’d be interested in guest blogging for Tinsel & Tine… And here’s her first post! When I first read “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, I finished the book in one day within a span of seven hours. I don’t remember the last time I’ve read a book from beginning to end, having to run to the bathroom afterwards to wash my face from crying. As a result, I had to see Stephen Chbosky’s film adaptation of his book, more now than ever after reading it first. I…
