Philly Restaurant – Flying Carpet Cafe & Bar

    April 21, 2011 /

Stumbled upon an oasis in the desert yesterday, a real treasure of a spot called Flying Carpet Cafe & Bar.  Located in the triangular apex of 19th & Poplar (1841 Poplar Street).  The vibe inside is wonderfully chill, with a slightly Moorish decor. Owner Kevin Young, is at least partly of Middle Eastern decent and a lot of the menu reflects this flavor, offering Mediterranean Tapas, Vegan Flying Falafel, Exotic Teas and Baklava. He created the signature sandwich I tried called Captain’s Breakfast ($6) – Scrambled eggs with turkey bacon, spinach, horseradish cheddar cheese, roasted red peppers on a everything bagel smeared with Dijon mustard – 3 Tines (* Excellent…

Exporting Raymond w/ Guest Appearance by Phil Rosenthal (Creator of Everybody Loves Raymond)

    April 8, 2011 /

However, I was on such a helium high from cackling uncontrollably throughout this comedic documentary chronicling Phil Rosenthal's misadventures while recreating his hit show Everybody Loves Raymond, with a Russian cast, for a Russian audience, in Moscow. Followed by a jocular

Commentary – Cave of Forgotten Dreams

    April 6, 2011 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I arrived breathless to the PFS preview screening of Cave of Forgotten Dreams, with only moments to find a seat and tear open my 3D spectacles. I do believe the Paleolithic artists of these ancient cave renderings would have understood my tardiness, as I had come from a second full day of hanging wonderful works of art for the opening of The Art of the Garden Exhibit in Haverford. As I began to shift my focus to the screen before me, taking in the beauty and breathing elegance of these 32,000 year-old drawings, brought to life with incredible texture by the 3D filming, I took…

LIMITLESS w/ Bradley Cooper Special Appearance

    March 17, 2011 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor “We’d all love to be great, we’d all like to do something special and make an impact on the world. Here’s a story about a guy who actually finds some fantastical way to make it happen. But it’s all played very real, it’s not magic, it’s a pill and it actually make him become the best version of himself, he’s not a superhero, but he has this sense of perfectibility” – Limitless Director, Neil Burger interview on Trailer Addict. Upper level PFS members were invited to an industry preview screening of the new thriller Limitless. The majority of the audience was made up of the…

    Commentary – Hall Pass

    February 26, 2011 /

What I really give the film props for is not rushing to the plot point. In other words, it’s not just funny after the guys are given the “hall pass”, it starts out with Rick’s kids delivering some dead on zingers, and the laughs just keep building from there...
