The Library Bar Interview: YAYA DACOSTA (Big Words) (Lee Daniels’ The Butler)
By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor In my We’re the Millers post, I talked about the coincidence of the same things crossing your path from different places. I feel that way when it comes to this beautiful America’s Next Top Model turned actress, who is steadily making a name for herself in the biz – Yaya Alafia – although that name has changed from DaCosta to Alafia with her marriage to filmmaker Joshua Bee Alafia last June. The couple is happily expecting their first child. I first took note of Yaya in my post on the movie The Kids Are All Right (2010). And although she’d been in Take the Lead…

Four Seasons Philadelphia Interview: Ryan Coogler: FRUITVALE STATION
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I knew nothing about the true events which Fruitvale Stationis based upon – I’m sure the controversial racial implications of OscarGrant’s death reached the East Coast, but sometimes I go undergroundnews wise for weeks at a time, and when I emerge, I don’t go back to findout what I missed. I do however pay attention during theSundance Film Festival. And when I read about Fruitvale Station, winning so much praise, I thought, how dramatic can it be? We know theguy dies. I make mention of cake a lot on Tinsel & Tine. In fact, if I had done my review of White House Down (which I didn’t do cause the movie was ridiculous, and Jamie Foxx & Channing Tatum have much better chemistry off camera than on) but if I had, I would have highlighted the scene where Walker (James Woods) enjoys a slice of cake right in the middle of taking 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue hostage. But I’m also very partial to pie! (See T&T review Philly Restaurant Magpie). So I was asked to let my readers know that Whole Foods Markets is celebrating Pie in July! All 9” pies are…

Candi’s Corner: Interview with new Evil Dead Director Fede Alvarez
*Please note- if you have not seen the original Evil Dead movie and would like to see it before watching Fede Alvarez’s version, you will be slightly spoiled reading this interview! You’ve been warned. As my journey in the movie industry continues, from acting to writing to reviewing, I find myself talking to the most interesting of people. However, I’ve met very few, where I can see in their eyes and from their body language and facial expressions, the look of cynicism. Many are passionate, yet because the odds seem very much not in their favor in this merciless business, you begin to notice more of the jaded, the cynical,…

LOOPER
Writer/Director Rian Johnson created a very balanced film. There's enough action & violence for testosterone driven movie-goers; enough plausible science for geeks; unique enough for indie movie-goers to see its merit.
