Spider-Man: Far From Home

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview SPIDERMAN: FAR FROM HOME This is the movie we needed to assure ourselves that the MCU can go on despite the end of an era feeling of EndGame. We get to experience the aftershocks of recovering from the snap from the viewpoint of the younger generation, which gives us a fun High School movie wrapped inside a Superhero movie, relying on the humor that comes from teenage awkwardness.

These movies get harder and harder to discuss without giving away spoilers. Every time I start down a path, particularly regarding comics long-time Spiderman nemesis Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), I have to veer away because if I talk about what I liked about the storyline vs what some fanboys take issue with, it would become a spoiler.

What’s safe to say, I’m constantly impressed with Tom Holland’s ability to have instant chemistry with anyone and everyone, since he was introduced in Civil War. His energy is infections without being over the top. His mentor relationship with Tony Stark was key, but his other relationships really click too – with May as family, Ned as buddy, Happy as that guy you work with, MJ as major crush and now Nick Fury & Mysterio, It’s one thing to be a good actor, but it’s another to be a good scene partner and Holland’s got that down.

I felt the writing was strong on Peter’s pull to want to return to a normal life after coming back 5 years later and helping to defeat Thanos. He’s not struggling with no longer wanting to be Spiderman; he just feels Spiderman has earned a well-deserved vacation. He also didn’t anticipate people were going to expect him to try to fill Ironman’s shoes. He’s like yeah, I was pumped about becoming an official Avenger, but right now, I just wanna be a card carrying member, not the new leader.

Love that we get 5 Spiderman suits in this – The one from Endgame with the killer spider legs, The Classic, Night Monkey, the sweat suit version and the New Classic.
