Quick T&T Recap of the Oscars 87th Academy Awards

So the awards season has wound down, all the speculation is over and the awards handed out. I saw about 89% of the movies nominated in various categories. If I had just fit in Interstellar, Inherent Vice and Whiplash, I would have been at about a 94% mark. Seeing a nominated foreign film or doc counts as extra points, but I didn’t see any of those this past year.

GOLDEN GLOBES ROUND UP 2015

Once again I started too late to get a restaurant to sponsor Tinsel & Tine’s Oscar Social Media Party.  But I had gone to a Whiskey tasting earlier in the week, where I received a bottle of Dad’s Hat Maple Syrup infused with Rye Whiskey, this gave me the idea to do a pancake dinner (even though we’re into Lent).

Target comfort foods for my Oscars Social Media Red Carpet Picnic: Archer Farms Vanilla Chai Pancakes (w/ black tea, chai spices & cinnamon chips), Archer Farms Peppermint Hot Chocolate, Pork roll, brown n serve sausage, Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn microwave popcorn.

When Diane arrived she brought Vinegar Salt Chips and Tate’s Chocolate Chip Cookies and next thing you know… this was what our Oscar After Party looked like.

Patricia Arquette using her winning speech time as a pulpit for women’s equality

The Best Adapted Screenplay winner Graham Moore for Imitation Game gave a moving speech about embracing what makes you, you, and the fact that he thankfully didn’t commit suicide at age 16. Still, I couldn’t help but be distracted when they cut to Keira Knightley who I had missed on the red carpet. After the poor reviews of her Golden Globes Gown HOW could she have made a similar mistake for the Oscars !?!

We went through the outrage and disappointment for SELMA during nominations, so by the time the Oscars rolled around, we had no choice but to except the film as a “non” Oscar contender. However, through their song “GLORY” Common and John Legend really stepped up to the plate all throughout the awards season to give glory to Selma, Ava DuVernay, Oprah, David Oyelowo and everything the movie stands for, in their acceptance speeches.

I was sent these pictures from my Zumba teacher Karen, whose boyfriend Ted has a daughter Nicole Dow, who is part of Common’s creative team and a producer of his 2013 movie LUV . That’s like a Kevin Bacon six degrees of separation game. Thanks for these Karen & Ted!

Deserved win for Julianne More in Still Alice, between she and Eddie Redmayne incurable illness = Oscar gold.

Congrats to Oscar winner J.K. Simmons for his supporting role in “Whiplash”.

Candy n Film: J. K. Simmons is also the voice of the Yellow M&M’S® “spokescandy” for the last 20 years, and was presented with an M&M’S® mosaic to congratulate him on his successful award season.

I want a M&M’S® Peanut Mosaic of myself to bring to the movies as my Cinema Sneak n Snack™, then I can eat my own face – perfect if seeing a David Lynch film.

The Budapest Hotel director Wes Anderson can’t complain – the movie won for Costume Design, Original Score, Makeup/Hairstyling, and Production Design – well done!

There’s a lot to take in when watching this film, The colors alone! The oddity of each character, Tilda Swinton playing a 80-something grand dame, a ruthless Willem Dafoe with skull knuckle rings and of course Bill Murray makes an appearance. Still, the movie does hone in on a theme, Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes) belongs to a time and place of grace, prose and refinement, which he feels is his duty to uphold both inside and outside of his profession. It really should have been Michael Keaton‘s win for Best Actor, particularly since Birdman was given the top honors.

I filled out this year’s Oscar ballot, not so much with what I wanted to see win, but what I thought would win. It worked pretty well, except in the category of hair and makeup, which I thought they’d award to Foxcatcher after all the fuss. Loved Big Hero 6, but thought they’d give it to How to Train Your Dragon.
