POSTPONED: SCREENING SCHOLARSHIP MEDIA FESTIVAL 2020

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Friday, March 27, 2020 | 5:30-9pm
Penn Museum, 3260 South Street
“What the Body Knows”

An evening of poetry, film, dance performances, and discussion to kick off SSMF 2020 and our theme, “Rupture and Repair.”
During this session, we will explore, exhibit, and engage research methodologies informed by the art of movement. The emphasis here is on embodied movement as a universal, collective, and deeply reflexive act important for both rigorous research as well as inspired art, particularly as they emerge from the experiences of Black women. We are interested in amplifying this research-art intersection, and making more visible the intricate web of embodied activity that makes this connection possible. Together with our audience, we will delve deeper into what happens when we open up our research agendas and artistic pursuits to include a deliberate and diligent engagement with the embodied movement that connects us across time, space, and ideology.

The evening will feature a screening of A Love Song for Latasha, with the filmmaker Sophia Nahli Allison; dance performances by Deborah ThomasJasmine JohnsonGrace Sanders JohnsonOreOluwa BadakiJasmine Blanks Jones; a poetry performance from Husnaa Hassim; music from Aisha Fukushima; and costumes created by Emily Carris.

A reception sponsored by the Center for Experimental Ethnography will follow.
