Ryan Coogler’s Mistaken for a Bank Robber

This happened in January 2022. How come we’re just hearing about it now?

And why would Black Panther & Creed Writer/Director Ryan Coogler go up to a Bank Teller to withdraw that much cash and include a note? I would think anyone in his position would call ahead and sit down to meet with a Bank Manager and let them bring the money to you.

But really, who needs 10k in cash unless you’re being blackmailed or something. Why wasn’t this an electronic transfer?

“We deeply regret that this incident occurred. It never should have happened and we have apologized to Mr. Coogler,” Bank of America told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement about the January incident in Atlanta.

The Atlanta police department admitted that Coogler’s detention was a case of mistaken identity, and Bank of America said it had apologized to the Hollywood director. Coogler, in turn, has accepted that apology. “This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on,” Coogler said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood ReporterREAD MORE
