PTC RECAP: SEE & BE SCENE:

Tinsel & Tine #PhillyCalendar #MiniRECAP Philadelphia Theatre Company invited me to their annual Sneak Peek at what they’re looking at for next year 2020/2021 46th Season!
They call it SEE & BE SCENE where some of the best Philly actors come to perform a scene from 8 Plays up for consideration. Then the audience gets to vote on their favorites.
Out of the eight, here’s the four I voted for:

JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN

By Kimberly Belflower
“The line between witch and heroine blurs in this post-#MeToo examination of power, literature, and sex education”

THE FIRST DEEP BREATH

by Philly native playwright Lee Edward Colston II
(Set in West Philadelphia) – the story of Pastor Albert Jones and his family who are forced to confront a hornet’s nest of long-buried family secrets when the eldest son returns home from prison.

Note: Colston is a former Philadelphia prison guard turned actor, playwright, director, acting teacher, writing coach and author. His play ROOST won the 2010 Life Media Award in the Philadelphia Urban Theater Festival and this play “The First Deep Breath” was selected in the Victory Gardens IGNITION Festival of New American Plays.
TELL ME I’M NOT CRAZY
by Sharyn Rothstein

A comedy which asks “how one small firearm redefines a family and how two generations confront what it means to succeed and to sacrifice in America today’ It doesn’t sound funny, but the dialogue is sharp and timely; not to mention, the lines were delivered by two Philly celebrities, veteran actors Scott Greer and Jennifer Childs.

SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS
by John Guare, Music by Marvin Hamlisch Lyrics by Craig Carnelia

We really didn’t get to see the set up for this musical, just heard one very pretty song. It’s understandable why, as the plot is a lot to condense into a sentence or two, but sounds intriguing
