Philly Spotlight: TOKEN Korean Grab and Go

Chef Cherryl Lemi-Gutierrez #TravelwithChefCherryl / PhillyFoodGal invited several Philly Food Bloggers, including yours truly, for a tasting of a new restaurant in NoLib called TOKEN (1050 N. Hancock Street Unit 51 Philadelphia PA 19123, part of Piazza at the Schmidts).

Philly Token Exterior & Interior

Token Philly is a Grab + Go featuring Korean Barbecue, Bao Steamed Buns, Noodles and Rice Bowls. It’s also a one stop for great carry out Beer Selections, Adult Milkshakes, Coffee, and more…  The owners are Yun No, Tom McMackin, Tim Lu & Jason Lu (twins)  They
also own Crabby Cafe next door and a nearby bakery that had
been in business for 100 years, in fact Jason worked there in high
schoolmaking Token also a fantastic BAKERY! They inherited all the great recipes which is why all the donuts,
cookies and pastries have that homemade old-fashioned goodness.

We got to sample a little bit of everything from Japachae (Korean glass noodles), Geot-Jeori Kimchi and Mandoo (Korean Beef Dumplings) to Korean Style Chicken Wings.

This was my favorite dish – earning the 3.5 Tines

When ordering first select your base (noodles, rice, salad or combo) Then select your protein (beef bulgogi, tofu, chicken bulgogi (spicy or mild), or mandoo. Then select your sauce (sweet, medium, citrus, hot gochujang, oi kimchi)

For the names of all the bloggers in attendance see T&T Instagram pics

The Chef at Token Philly is Yumee Yi she takes pride in making all the dishes traditionally from scratch, sauteing vegetables every morning, prepping the dough, and using Yun’s mother Mona’s special seasoning for the Kimchi. So just because it’s to go food, doesn’t mean it’s fast food.

While You’re Here Check Out WOK STREET

My sister and I have been trying to do less pizza, burgers and steak sandwiches. So it’s nice to have Snap Kitchen, Fuel and Revolution Taco (see T&T post) in town… And now Wok Street (15th & Chestnut Sts.) is a great addition to the fast, healthier eating craze. These Signature Bowls are hot and filling. The regular is a very good size. No one’s ever accused me of having a small appetite and even I would’t attempt to eat the large bowl in one sitting… READ POST
