Philadelphia Film Society is taking over the Ritz at the Bourse venue and leaving the Roxy

PFS will soon have nine total screens in Philadelphia — five at the Bourse, two at the Navy Yard, and two at the Film Center.

The Philadelphia Film Society has negotiated a new lease with property owner MRP Realty, spent roughly $750,000 to renovate the five-screen site, and plans to reopen the facility sometime in May as the PFS Bourse, with the same kind of specialty fare that screened at the Ritz at the Bourse and perhaps more mainstream content mixed in. The beloved indie movie theater, Ritz at the Bourse, will close end of January 2020, the theater’s ownership group announced on Sunday…

“We regret to inform you that the Ritz at the Bourse is closing. Thank you for your continued patronage and we look forward to serving you at the Ritz East and the Ritz Five,” Cohen Media Group said in a statement obtained by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The last day to catch a film at the theater, located at 400 Ranstead St., will be Sunday, Jan. 26, The Inquirer reports. The facility will close entirely on Friday, Jan. 31. READ MORE (PhillyVoice)
