NY Film & Video Festival Day 4 & 5

So I haven’t seen nearly the amount of films I normally would when covering a festival. But as I’ve mentioned, I’m also here visiting friends and family and truthfully, I’m not crazy about Docs and Shorts. I appreciate them, as I appreciate anyone with the vision, creativity, fortitude and determination to make any film of any size; but preferably, I like to see as many feature lengths as possible and then sprinkle in the documentaries and shorts.

Here’s two films I have not seen, but have had the pleasure of conversing with the filmmakers:

Greetings (5:13 min) Director: Joe Pearman, Creators: Jason Zeller and Mike Ayllon (3-D Animation) Aliens “Manny” and “Bernice” are lost in space. They almost crash land on Earth and decide to ask an “Earthling” for directions. This film screened on Sunday. However, one of the festival reps told me last night, they plan to screen it again today (Wed Oct 28) at 6pm.

Marathon (90 min) Director: Biju Viswanath, Producer: Richard Harteis (Producer) (USA) Marathon tells the true story of two poets, young and old who survive devastating illness through love, courage and endurance. The film explores the relationship between Richard Harteis and William Meredith, former US Poet Laureate and winner of virtually every major American award for poetry including the 1988 Pulitzer Prize. Starring Alec Dana, Bristol Pomeroy, Beth Campbell, Donna Del Bueno, Beverly Robinson World Premiere Village Cinema East Thursday, October 29th 6:10pm Screen 7

I’m really sorry I won’t be able to see this film, at least not at this festival, as I have to leave NY Thursday afternoon.

Review of Resting Places and other festival commentary to come. I’m going to try and make it for the block of films beginning at 12 noon today, so I’d better get moving…
