THE MICHEAUX MISSION

I’ve contributed to many post-screening Spoiled Tribbles Episodes. In fact, just did one for The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (listen).  And most every Tuesday at 3:45pm, I contribute a movie segment to That’s Show Biz with Chuck Darrow, but that’s less than 10 minutes and although Chuck can sometimes serve me a curve ball, I normally stick to my script.  But when Len & Vince asked me to be a guest on their The Micheaux Mission podcast, I was pleased, but apprehensive, cause it’s an hour long format and these guys just seem to be so good at talking about a movie off the cuff; referencing other influences and drawing social conclusion etc…  I may write similarly, but wasn’t sure how good I’d be in the moment. How was I? Well, I was no Ralph Waldo Petey Greene, but I think I pulled off both engaging and knowledgeable, if I don’t say so myself… Granted, I did watch the movie twice, read interviews with the director, real-life characters, the three leads and prepared copious notes. A lot of which I didn’t need cause the conversation just flowed.

For those of you uninitiated to The Micheaux Mission:
Len Webb & Vince Williams are on THE MICHEAUX MISSION – to watch and review every Black feature film ever released.FYI – Oscar Micheaux (January 2, 1884 – March 25, 1951) is regarded as the first major African-American feature filmmaker and the most successful African-American filmmaker of the first half of the twentieth century.
An invitation from Len & Vince to sit in the 3rd chair comes with it the honor of  choosing the movie. My pick – Kasi Lemmon’s TALK TO ME (starring Don Cheadle, Chewitel Ejiofor, and Taraji P. Henson). It’s such an underrated and little known movie outside of the black community, but it’s a movie I feel is done to perfection!
