Gloria Bell

writer/director Sebastián Lelio Love these Landmark’s Ritz Movie Theatres Philadelphia Letters from the director – didn’t know this movie was a remake by the same writer/director, how many times has that happened?

“Gloria Bell is a very intense and incisive portrait of a woman. We see her in every frame of the film. Every single scene is about how she exists in the world, moment by moment. Because the spectator never stops looking at her, there is the opportunity to deeply connect with her feelings …Like everyone, Gloria gets hit by the world, but she continues to stand up. She resurrects herself and keeps on looking to experience the beauty of life. That is my inspiration and reason for sharing her story—for the Glorias of the world to been seen and heard…” -Sebastián Lelio – https://tinyurl.com/y2wwcdtp

That description makes GLORIA BELL sound more dramatic than it actually comes off, it’s got more humor and authentic ridiculousness to it than that. Not to mention an awesome soft rock 70’s & 80’s soundtrack.

Julianne Moore really finds her inner regular person. It’s cliche to say, but I did relate to the film, feeling like one of the “Glorias of the world” I’m not divorced, no adult kids, but I still feel very much like her, trying to find enjoyment in your life with hobbies and activities, because you know very few dreams are still possible. Still willing to hope for romantic love in this 2nd stage of your life, even though most men out here are impossible to read and full of baggage. Still, you get up everyday wanting to look your best and put your best foot forward. What other choice do you have?
