Disney’s MULAN China Controversy
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor
Everything’s a political landmine now, even Disney has to watch its step when working with foreign powers for fear of being brought before a congressional committee. What started out as a way to make sure the live remake of animated Mulan would have as much authenticity as possible and a way to rake in Chinese box office, now has Disney getting back lash from anti-China thinking in the US and retaliation from the Chinese government by a refusal to allow its media to promote the film, which earned a meager $23 million in its Chinese theatrical debut.
Of course these difficulties with China stem from Trump’s fascist America, which if allowed 4 more years will destroy Freedoms of all manner in our country.
But on a personal note, I’m glad Disney’s Mulan is having issues, as that $30 price tag was outrageous for a single person viewing and they only authorized screener for some members of the Philadelphia Film Critics Circle, of which I was not one, yet I saw other film critic colleagues with the same size outlet receive screeners, so what’s up with that Disney?
