Chris Norris Blog Contributor: Is Almost 2 Hours of “2 Guns” 2 Much?

Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg star in “2 Guns,” a NEW Action/Comedy/Thriller Directed by Baltasar Kormakur

When attempting to write my review of Icelandic
Director Baltasar Kormakur’s new Action/Comedy “2 Guns” I drew
a blank. I thought at first it was writer’s block. I soon realized I
was having one of those “it’s not me it’s you” moments.
Predictable at best, forgettable at worst, I wasn’t even aware that
“2 Guns” was a comedy until I looked at IMDB.com. Imagine my
surprise when I learned that the almost two hour film was suppose to
make me laugh; I thought it was an advertorial for guns and
immigration.

The plot: based on a book by comic book writer Steven Grant, features Bobby Beans (Denzel Washington) and Michael ‘Stig’ Stigman (Mark Wahlberg) both crooked undercover officers – one from the DEA
and the other from the Navy – who are trying to infiltrate the same
drug cartel. They then later try to rob a bank for a few million
dollars and end up with more than 40 million dollars and violent CIA
agents on their tails. With more guns shots than quality
jokes, “2 Guns” offers nothing new to the genre of Action films. Two of my favorite actors –
Washington and Wahlberg – can’t save a script this lame. On my
way home from the theater I keep asking myself: “haven’t I seen
this movie before?”
